Ah yes, every little girls dream, to be bullied by her future husband. "I sure hope not. There are certainly better ways to get in bed with me, for starters, a compliment. Not drenching me in pigs blood." I picked at my acrylic nails, scrapping the blood from underneath them. "I can't believe my one shot at this sorority was ruined. I just wanted to finally be a part of the team."

Richard frowned. "Maybe there's another way you can get into the sorority," her voice was gentle as she talked me down. Richard was always the calm one of the two of us. It was why we were so perfect together. She was my soulmate. The one person in the world who I was meant to find no matter what. The one person I couldn't live without. My soulmate, and I was hers. I would never find a romantic partner who would ever be as important as her. She was my best friend. My person.

"I doubt it." The president already hated me. "No one on the team likes me, Richard."

She continued massaging my scalp, red water dripping down my back. "Hey, you're Alexandria Claudia Adams, the toughest and most stubborn girl I know. If anyone can find a way to get a second chance, it's you." She didn't get time to finish her motivational pep talk before she was doubled over the toilet, throwing up the three hot pockets she had before I got here.

My eyes widened as I watched her, rushing to pull her hair back. Her phone vibrated on the counter in synchronization with her retches. Knowing exactly who it was, I answered it for her, considering she couldn't answer it herself. "Richard's Taxidermy emporium, you snuff 'em, we stuff 'em."

"What are you covered in?" He ignored my clever line.

I pouted. Rude. "You never appreciate my humor."

"That's because you have the humor of a fourteen year old boy."

"You didn't find my jokes funny when we were fourteen either."

He laughed, finally. Took him long enough. "Can I please talk to my girlfriend?"

I looked at Richard, whose head was buried in the toilet. "She's a little preoccupied at the moment."

"Doing what?"

"Your mom."

He was left speechless at my peak comedy. "Alexia, we have the same mother." He paused, staring at me. "And what are you covered in?"

"Pigs blood." I answered innocently.

"There was a blood clot!" Richard cried.

Oh, that explains the vomit.

His eyes widened, his eyebrow shooting up. "Please tell me you're not actually trying out taxidermy?"

"We're practicing for Estrella. I figured you wouldn't want her to be our Guinea pig."

His eyes widened, his skin going pale. "Don't you dare hurt my cat."

My brother's cat was a demon straight from hell. That thing hated me. I couldn't even go near it without it trying to claw my eyes out. I thought when my brother went off to college, three thousand miles away, I would finally be free of the tiny demon, but no. His dorm didn't allow pets. So what does he do? He leaves his cat with his girlfriend. My best friend. And now I have to be greeted at the door by a hiss every time I want to see Richard. "You're cat started it." I was covered in the scars of her revenge from the one time I accidentally stepped on her tail.

"Can I please just talk to my girlfriend?"

"Sure, but it's not gonna be pretty." I flipped the phone so he could see Richard, who had finally stopped throwing up, but remained slumped over the toilet bowl. "Hi, love," she barely whispered, eyes droopy.

"Hi, gorgeous."

"Hi." She smiled.

I loved seeing her happy, wasn't the biggest fan that it was with my brother but, two birds one stone I guess. When they get married and have a ton of tiny gremlin babies, I'll be able to annoy my brother and see my bestie all in one trip. And in all fairness, my brother did know her first. If it weren't for his stupidity, I wouldn't have gotten to know Richard. Still can't believe he managed to pull her with a stupid game—'first one to fall in love loses'. That's something straight out of a movie. "I'll give you two some privacy." I patted my friend on the back, grabbing a towel and waddling out the door, trying my best not to track bloody water around her house.

I walked down the hall as quietly as possible, pausing by the family portrait that hung on the wall. It was my favorite picture of Richard, taken a few years ago. She looked truly at home, stuck at the bottom of the pyramid consisting of her and her two brothers. Her eldest brother, being the smallest, took the top of the pyramid with a big, toothy grin. Richard's brothers were the most important thing in the world to her, three peas in a pod. They were inseparable. And yet I had only ever met her youngest brother. Her eldest brother was practically a ghost. If it weren't for his stuff laying around the house, I'd be sure he didn't even exist. I wanted to meet the man that was so important to Richard. I'd imagined what he was like from his picture countless times. My guess was he was captain of the chess team, super smart, kind. And from what Richard tells me, he's a big sweet heart with a heart of gold, like a teddy bear as she puts it.

And her little brother, he was great. Super funny and an amazing sense of fashion. He sews his entire wardrobe and everything's so well made you would've guessed he bought it from the store. He was the best.

I sighed, moving on, passing her brothers' rooms and making it hers. I took a long look in the mirror, blood still stuck in the creases of my skin, the burning smell following me everywhere. I had never looked worse, and it was all his fault.

But it was time for my pity party to end. Enough feeling sorry for myself, what's done is done. The only thing left to do now, revenge. I'm gonna make that stranger pay for what he's done.
