Connecting Dots

The sound of knives and forks hitting plates, with idle chatter, and the sound of the rain outside filled the restaurant as, by the window, a badger and a human were chatting while eating together.

Y/N: So nothing?

Honey Badger: Sorry, Y/N, I don't know what to say, but there is no record of humans coming to Zootpia not ten years ago or even 20 years ago

Y/N: It's okay. Thanks for doing that, Honey Badger. I appreciate it. I mean that.

Honey Badger: I know otherwise, you wouldn't have taken me out to dinner, and this place is clearly not cheap by any stretch~

She gave you a cheeky smile that seemed to be half-flirting and half-caring. You sipped your drink, trying to avoid her look as beat as you could

Honey Badger: Why did you ask about it anyway? About the human thing, anyway?

Y/N: A tiger I integrated a week or so ago said, "Someone like you." and Me and Bogo assumed it might be human, but clearly not, but it could be anything, I guess.

You ate some of your food as Honey nodded her head in response to what you said.

Honey Badger: The only anomalies I picked up were that meteor that crashed down 15 years ago and the fact that Cerbus popped up 14 years ago

Y/N nodded and went to eat some more food before you drooped your fork in shock, clanging against the plate, confusing Honey Badger. You started at her with a determined look.

Y/N, you said that meteor carried a red mist to it, right?

Honey Badger: I did why?

Y/N: Would you know if there were any samples taken at all and where I could find them?

Honey Badger: Y/N, your worrying me

Y/N: Sorry, but I think I might be able to blow this whole case open!

You lowered your voice as some animals were looking at you.

Y/N: Heh, sorry, but any idea if there was any samples taken?

Honey Badger: The observatory maybe

You dramatically stood up, ready to run out and towards the restaurant, but Honey held your hand.

Honey Badger: One, it's Sunday; two, it's like 9 p.m.; and three, you said you would pay for dinner

Y/N: Damn, I did say that, didn't I? Okay fine

The rest of the night carried on with you both idly chatting until the night came to an end, paying you both to get back to your car and begin to drive home.

Honey Badger: Thanks, Y/N, for taking me out to dinner tonight. I really appreciate it

Honey looked at you with a smile and a slight blush on her face; the lights of Zootopia shinned as rain came down on your car.

Honey Badger: I've been meaning to ask. It's been nearly a month since you first came to Zootopia; how is it treating you?

You smiled, looking back at Honey Badger while also trying to focus on the road, too

Y/N: I won't lie; Honey Badger Zootopia has been really good to me, a lot better than I expected, but then again, I guess going from a planet where all I did was fight and kill it a welcome change, I guess, but some nights I wake up from nightmares, or I feel that I will wake up back on Reach like this is some sort of fever dream that I'm having or a dying hallucination.

Honey Badger: I can't even begin to imagine what it must have been like even before Reach. All the fight you must have gone through and then to come to this? It must have been a shock to your system, and now? Your trying to solve your first case/mystery

Y/N: I know, crazy, right? I've got to ask how it was even possible to make Zootopia and the outer cities. It can't have been easy

Honey Badger: It wasn't easy. I mean, you've seen how complex and twisted some of the buildings are, but we managed it.

After a little while longer of driving, you pulled up to Honey Badger hangar. She smiled, looking at you leaning against the door.

Honey Badger: So you want to come in?

Y/N: I'm fine, thank you, Honey Badger. I appreciate the offer, though.

Honey Badger: Can I at least get a kiss?

Y/N: You're not going to give up, are you?

Honey Badger: Nope~

You gave her a small kiss on the cheek before driving away. Honey Badger had a blush on her face as she walked back into her hanger, a wide smile on her face.

The next day

Valkyrie: Get up Y/N

Y/N: Fine

You finally rolled out of your bed and got dressed. You started to head for the observatory, pulling up and pushing open the double doors; a raccoon looked up from his desk

Raccoon: Ah, hello there, sir. What can I do for you?

Y/N: I've heard about 15 years ago that a meteor crashed on the outskirts of Zootopia carrying with a red mist; you wouldn't happen to have any samples lying around, would you?

Raccoon: I, sir, that is classified, and even if we did

You pulled out your police badge as the Raccoon went wide-eyed and stumbled over his words

Raccoon: I mean I, maybe we do, but I couldn't

You interrupted him

Y/N: I am currently investing in a dangerous case about Night Terror. It has a red mist color to it, and I think it may connect to the meteor, so are you going to show me the samples you have, or am I going to have to arrest you for wasting police time?

The room was dead silent as the Raccoon blinked with a slack jaw as you folded your arms and gave a smug grin towards him.

Raccoon: I...I...I right this way, sir

Hoping down from his desk, you followed him towards an elevator heading inside; the only sound was that of the elevator music playing as you idly played with your fingers until the doors opened, and you kept following the raccoon.

Valkyrie: I don't like this Y/N. Be careful

Y/N: Mmm

Walking into a lab, you were stopped by a fox

Fox: Hey, you can't be here.

Raccoon: He's with the police force looking up about the Night Terror case

The fox huffed before moving out the way heading towards the back, and you saw a chunk of meteor contained in a secure chamber with red mist seeping out of it. Walking over, you spoke to Valkryie

Y/N: Let me guess, you need me to scan this for you?

Valkyrie: Would you be a dear and do that for me?

Holding out your arm, a blue glow envelops the container as Valkyrie began to scan in after about 30 seconds; she was done with that. You headed for the elevator and left, refusing to elaborate further

Y/N: So Valks how long?

Valkyrie: How long till what?

You left the observatory and began to drive back into Zootopia

Y/N: Till you can connect the dots to see if this red mist from the meteor is the same as the one from the Night Terror

Valkyrie: It's going to take a few days

She said sheepishly as you rested your head on the steering wheel.

Y/N: SON OF A
