PROLOGUE

I need to do this more often. Just walk around and see the beauties of California. Besides the busy streets filled with people, Los Angeles is truly fascinating. I haven't been out much since my world fell apart. That tends to happen after you see a dear love one take their life right in front of your eyes. It destroys you, like a part of you is gone and taken with them.

My legs bump into something, snapping me out of my thoughts. I look down and see a sign that reads "No Trespassing". I look to my side and see a fence covered by vines, blocking the path that leads into something like a maze of gray cement bricks. I lean over and see it's covered in graffiti, but I can't tell what it says or what is drawn there. I look around me before climbing the fence. I move the vines aside and jump down and land on my feet with a grunt. I look up and it looks like I'm in a colorful maze, it takes my breath away. Tracing my fingers along the dry paint, I look at everything awe.

"Woah," I found it again. It's been a long time since I've been here. They hid it from the public, it seems. I notice there is mirrors instead of large openings. That's a nice cover up. I stare at my reflection before finding someone behind me, leaning against the wall. I turn around and gasp. I thought I was alone.

"Amazing, huh?" The handsome man says. Dark brown hair with caramel skin, dimples on his cheeks, he must be a ladies man; it would explain his confidence.

"Yeah, it's been a while..." I look back to the vandalized walls.

"This is more of a "No Enter Zone", He says. I turn around to look at him, my eyebrows raised. He doesn't recognize me? "Usually I take care of unexpected visitors but your eyes show curiosity." He comes toward me. I bring my hand back to my back pocket, ready to act. "What's your name, Angel Face?"

"Why do you need my name for?" I snap at him. Let me test him and see how long it would take for him to snap back.

"Now, don't get feisty with me." He says, restraining himself from harming me. "I'm usually not nice to people who step into our territory, but I'll make an exception for you." He says, smirking now.

I hear a loud car engine roar from behind the vandalized cement bricks I'm backing up to. "Was that a-?"

"The race started," He mumbles. "Come with me," He takes my hand and drags me behind him. I am too focused on peeking through the small open gaps of the wall to see if I'm right, but I don't see much because of trees are in the way.

"Who's racing?" I ask and jerk my hand from his grasp. He stops to look at me. "I've heard The Black Crowns host the famous Race Wars here in LA, that even celebrities come to participate in them. They say it's hidden somewhere-"

"So you've heard about us?" The familiar guy interrupts my babbling as he walks backwards. I follow.

"I may or may not have competed in some when it first started," I shrug my shoulders nonchalantly. He smirks at me and stops before a fence. "We don't host the Race Wars," He says. "We invented the Race Wars." He pushes the tree branches aside and two cars take off, people gathered around cheer. I gasp awed at how much it has improved, but it disappears before I can take it all in. I frown at the tree branches that covered it up for me.

"You're part of The Black Crowns, right?" I turn to the familiar guy.

"That's right," He nods his head in confirmation.

I analyze him. "Which one are you?"

"Which one am I?" He repeats. I nod. "Well, you see, I-"

"'Ey, Delgado, what are you-?" A guy stops mid sentence as he stands on the other side of the fence behind the familiar looking guy before me. That fence leads to a tunnel, light at the end of it. Something like a rock blocks whatever it is that they're hiding. I knew it, it is him! "Who's she?" He nods his head at me.
