lxiii. alliance of evil
( season seven )

LYRA and Pyro had made their way down to Texas, wandering the streets in search of a particular address given to them (well, to Lyra) by Magneto. Beside her. Pyro was practically jumping with excitement, overjoyed to finally have an assignment. He simply refused to stay still. Lyra let him. If he ran into someone, that was not her fault.

"Doesn't this just make you want to burn everything down?" John asked, making his way back to Lyra's side, a bounce in his step.

"Your name is fitting, isn't it, Pyro?" Lyra signed teasingly.

"There's nothing wrong with enjoying a bit of fire!"

Lyra just stared at him. "Try not to cause too much meaningless destruction," she instructed.

"As opposed to meaningful destruction?" John said, grinning mischievously.

Lyra rolled her eyes. "Just focus on our mission."

John smirked, walking backwards. Before Lyra could warn him, he bumped into a lady.

Lyra huffed and opened her mouth to apologize for him (he wouldn't do it himself, not to a human, she presumed) but the woman interrupted, continuing to walk as if nothing happened. "Oh, don't worry, dear, my boy is the same," she said, patting Lyra on the shoulder.

"Oh, he's not-" Lyra said aloud, her voice gruff, attempting to inform her that John was not her son, but she was cut off again, this time by him.

"Come on, mom, we'll be late!" John exclaimed, smirking mischievously. The woman continued walked as if nothing had happened, leaving Lyra to catch up to the teen.

"Really?" she signed to him.

John shrugged. "What? It was funny!"

"We'll discuss your mommy issues later. For now... we're here."

They arrived in front of a large house, bordering on a mansion, secluded from intruders by an electronic gate. John peered through the gate. "Do I get to burn it down?" he asked.

Lyra smirked at him. "If the Senator is inside... yes." She closed her eyes and placed her palm against the gate, letting electricity flow from her hands toward the house, searching for heat signatures inside. She found the one she was searching for. She used her powers to unlock the gate for them, ushering John inside after her. "Try to keep it controlled," she instructed.

"Hey, I'm a professional!" John said, grinned widely as he flicked open his lighter. The flame grew to life at his command, quickly spreading to the home, engulfing it in a fury of red and orange. Quickly sirens could be heard in the distance as the fire ravaged the entire house. Screams could be heard inside. Lyra concentrated and used her powers to spark an electrical fire inside, to alleviate any suspicious that could be linked back to them.

Lyra grabbed John by the shoulder and nodded for them to leave, lest they get caught in the heat. They ran to the back to avoid detection, and Lyra flew them over the fence.

"Wait, wait, you can fly?" John exclaimed as they ran.

"Why are you surprised? My dad flies."

"Yeah, but-" He paused. "Shut up."

Lyra just gestured for him to follow. They had to get out of there before authorities arrived.

Lyra and Pyro had easily escaped away from the town and into an open field, with only a shallow river to divide it. Lyra went to sign something, when she was suddenly tackled to the ground by something — rather, someone, throwing themselves at her.
