As The Months Go By

Bdubs's Perspective-

As the months went by, time slowly flew closer and closer to Bdubs's birthday.

He was going to have two this year.

One with his father and friends, and one with his mother and Scar.

"I'm sorry, Bdubs, but mom won't let me go to your party." Scar said one night when he was talking with his brother.

"What? But we're doing karaoke!"

"I know, and I'm sorry. But you'll still have fun! Who're you inviting anyway?"

"Er- Jevin, Keralis, Skylar, Cleo, and Etho. I was going to invite more but they can't make it."

"Oh, I'm sorry. And did you already ask Etho?"

"Er- not yet." Bdubs said, embarrassed.

"Why not?"

"Because I want to tell him I like him at the right time!"

"There's no such thing as the 'right time'."

"But- "

"Trust me, Etho likes you back."

Bdubs hummed, "That's what they all say."

Scar chuckled and then sighed.

"Well, I gotta go. See you tomorrow?"

"Yeah."

They then hung up and Bdubs sighed as he laid in his bed.

Just gotta tell Etho tomorrow.

The Next Day-

Bdubs sat nervously in his ELA class.

It was the last class of the day, and he had been procrastinating about talking with Etho.

I just gotta do it. Just say it!

Bdubs looked over at Etho, who sat in the front of the class, but their teacher, Mr. Nemeth, looked up at that exact moment and said,
"Bdubs, eyes on your own paper. This is a quiz, remember."

Bdubs flushed red from embarrassment, nodded, and looked back down at his paper.

I'll just talk with him after class.

"Hey Etho!" Bdubs called, running after his crush.

Etho turned around and smiled, "Hey Bubbles!"

Bdubs blushed at the familiar pet name as he started walking with Etho.

"What's up?" Etho asked.

"I..." Bdubs's hands tightened around his backpack straps, "I needed to talk to you about something."

"Oh...is something wrong?"

"I just- my birthday's coming up and I was wondering if you could make it karaoke! Skylar, Cleo, Keralis, and Jevin are going as well."

"I'd love to!"

"Great! And don't worry about getting me a birthday present."

"To bad." Etho said, and Bdubs giggled.

They fell into a bit of a silence until Etho asked,
"So...is that it?"

"Oh! Er- well...I had something very important I wanted to tell you."

"What's that?"

Bdubs bit his lip.

"Bubbles, you know I won't judge you for anything you do or say, right? Sure, I think it's funny and stupid, but- "

"That's judging me!" Bdubs shouted and Etho laughed.

"What I'm saying," Etho said, patting Bdubs's head to try and calm him down, "is that you'll always be my friend."

Bdubs blushed as he whispered,

"I love you."

Now I know what you're thinking. They're already together, the story is basically over!!

But you know me :)

There's always going to be a pile of angst.
