Chapter 2: Witches before Wizards

Start from the beginning

Centaur: "This is it!"

The centaur placed some coins on Y/N's hands before opening the bottle and splashing the liquid on the top head. Immediately, it disconnected from the body and fell to the floor, leaving Y/N wide eyed as he stared at it.

Centaur: "Finally got rid of it. Thanks a bunch, kid."

And so the centaur left the still stunned human who had his eyes locked onto the head on the floor. Just like the time Eda got decapitated by the warden, this came as a big shock to him. This head didn't even have a neck anymore, just a blank skin colored ball with some hair attached. Y/N was snapped out of his trance by a tap on his shoulder. He turned around to see Luz and King looking at him with admiration.

Luz: "I didn't know you were so good at selling things!"

King: "I was expecting you to run away after seeing that guy's real face."

Y/N: "That would be rude."

Luz: "Yeah, but I would have done that. I didn't expect a centaur to have a face on his chest."

Y/N: "Or a tumor that looks like a head?"

King: "It's a very common problem among centaurs."

Luz thought about that and imagined if she grew a second head somewhere in her body, making her shiver at the possibility. She silently prayed it was only reserved to centaurs and not humans. After that splendid display of marketing talent, Y/N, Luz and King went on to try and sell more potions, with little success. Every single witch, demon and other local creature either refused to buy their offers, made fun of them, or tried to eat them. They tried a different approach by ringing on doorbells like door to door salesmen, only for half the doorbells to try and eat them.

In the end, they sold almost nothing, with Y/N only being able to sell three more potions to a couple of witches, plus the ones who were specifically ordered by clients. Now Luz is sitting by the curb, sulking, as King eats what is called a Not-Dog. It just looks like a bunch of insects ground to paste stuffed inside two hot-dog buns. Y/N is checking on the potions, trying to see if there was anything wrong with them and if that was why they couldn't sell them all.

King: "I know I had enough delight for one day."

Luz: "*sigh* I thought being the only humans in a magical world would make us special, but... apparently it just makes everyone scream at me or eat me."

Luz lifted her arm, showing an ugly bug sucking on her elbow, and shook it off.

Luz: "At this point, Azura had already been sent on an enchanted quest."

She opened her Azura book and turned it on a page where Azura was talking to an old bearded man, drawing Y/N's attention as he started rubbing his chin. He was wondering if he should also grow a beard.

Luz: "Where's my quest-granting wizard?"

Y/N: "Don't say that, Luz. This is just our first day. You know, I used to write fanfiction as a hobby, so I know that the more interesting parts of our journey will only come later on. The beginning isn't supposed to be dramatic or action packed, it's-"

Luz: "A way to know the characters and the world. I know. Thanks, Y/N. But this isn't fanfiction, it's my opportunity to become who I know I can be."

Y/N: "You mean a witch?"

Luz nods, clutching her book to her chest.

Y/N: "Then I'll help you become the best witch in the world! Lesson one, you have to believe! Do you believe?"
