Chapter 2: Witches before Wizards

Start from the beginning

Y/N: "Hi, Lucia! Are you excited to become a witch?"

The girl looked up from her phone to see Y/N with stars in his eyes and looking at her expectantly. She snorted in amusement and ruffled his hair.

Lucia: "Not really. That's more Luz's thing. But I'll be here to provide moral support."

Y/N: "And where is Luz?"

Lucia: "She's in the kitchen with King, seeing if there's any food that won't kill us if we eat it."

Y/N: "What's wrong with the food here?"

Lucia: "Well, unless you want some kind of cake that looks to be made of spiders covered in swamp water, be my guest. On second thought, don't even get near it."

Lucia patted his shoulder right as Luz, dressed in a black robe and witch hat, stepped out of the kitchen while adjusting a name tag clipped to her chest. When she saw Y/N, a big smile formed on her face as she bounced over and posed for him.

Luz: "Check it out! I found some witchy clothes in the room we're staying in. Do they fit me?"

Y/N: "Woah! You look just like a witch! So pretty!"

Luz smirked at his compliment, but when she heard his final words, she sputtered. A huge blush appeared on her face as she struggled to find the correct words to say. Meanwhile, Lucia, having heard everything, couldn't help but laugh at Y/N's blunt compliment and Luz's reaction. She found it hilarious the way her sister's brain practically short-circuited, and she started wheezing the more she looked at the poor girl's face and the boy's oblivious expression.

Seeing how Y/N was still looking at straight at her and Lucia was laughing at her expense, Luz quickly pulled her had over her face to hide her blush.

Luz: 'I can't believe he just said that! He called me pretty! I think I'm gonna pass out!'

Before she could feel any more embarrassed, the three humans heard the sound of footsteps coming down the stairs and all turned to it. Eda, still looking like she crawled out of a casket, yawned. Not wanting to embarrass herself any more, Luz quickly adjusted the hat on her head and saluted the witch.

Luz: "Good morning, Eda the Owl Lady! I am ready for my first day of witch apprenticeship!"

But Eda just brushes some spiders out of her hair and plucks one from her ear, flicking it away. Behind Luz, Lucia gags in disgust as she realizes where the spider cake came from.

Eda: "Ugh. Who are you again?"

Luz lost her smile as she heard Eda's words, looking confused. Eda didn't notice, or simply ignored, Luz's shocked expression as she passed by the trio of humans and into the kitchen. Luz shared a glance with Lucia and Y/N, who looked equally confused, before following Eda into the kitchen.

Luz: "Remember me? Luz?

Eda waved her finger, casting a spell, and a mug came flying through the door. It hit Lucia on the back of her head, causing the older girl to groan and glare at Eda behind her back. But the witch didn't pay attention to it as she casually walked up to the fridge while King was busy eating/brutalizing his breakfast.

Luz: "We freed the oppressed and defeated the evil warden together? Yesterday?"

Eda: "Kid, lay off the details. I haven't even had my cup of apple blood yet."

Y/N: "Do you mean apple juice?"

Eda: "No."

Eda casually sat on the table while King was murdering his plate of something and sipped from her mug. Luz immediately got on her face and started asking in rapid-fire a load of questions.
