Chapter 2: Witches before Wizards

King: "I know..."

Next, Luz stood over Y/N's sleeping form, just admiring how his chest rose up and down with each breath. She spent a good minute simply staring at him, her hand reaching to touch him.

Lucia: "Look, hermana, I know he's cute, but you're being creepy right now."

Luz snapped out of her trance immediately and blushed, glaring at Lucia who held a smirk and a raised eyebrow. Luz pointed an accusatory finger at her sister.

Luz: "You're one to talk! You were hugging him in your sleep!"

Lucia: "Key words, 'In my sleep'. You do everything while awake."

Luz groaned and shook Y/N's shoulder to wake him up, but wasn't prepared for the very tiny yawn the boy made. It was like a baby's yawn, and that sent a rush of red all over Luz's face. Y/N blinked himself awake, his half lidded eyes scanning around the room before they widened and he jumped up, filled to the brim with energy.

Y/N: "It's real!"

He began jumping around in his excitement, a sight that made both girls laugh at his silly display of happiness. Lucia shook her head and placed her hand on top of Y/N's head to calm him down.

Lucia: "You jump any more and the witches here will think you're a frog. And we all know what happens when a witch finds a frog."

Y/N: "*le gasp* Frog legs! Frog eyes! No, I'm not a potion ingredient or a French dish!"

That earned a snort from Lucia and a giggle from Luz. The younger sister grabbed some clothes from her bag and headed to the door.

Luz: "I'm going to get ready in the bathroom."

Lucia: "I'll come along. Y/N needs his privacy."

Luz: "Oh, so now you care about that?"

The only answer Luz got was a smirk and shrug from her older sister as they both exited the room. This left Y/N alone with King, the latter already back sleep. The boy took this alone time to grab his clothes and set them in a corner of the room. He didn't think about shared spaces yesterday with the excitement of being in a magic world, but now he made sure to set his own space while leaving the rest for the two girls he's living with. He's a gentleman at heart, after all.

Once done organizing his stuff, he grabs some clothes and heads to the bathroom where he catches Luz and Lucia exiting the bathroom with fresh clothes and hair slightly damp from a shower. He bounces over to them in an excited fashion, stopping right in front of the two girls. They greet him as he walks over, moving aside to let him into the bathroom and, once the door closes behind him, Lucia grins. She crouches down, for some reason, but is stopped as Luz pulls her away with a huff, telling her something about shame and morals.

Inside the bathroom, Y/N glances around the space, noting how it looks fairly normal for a bathroom belonging to a witch. With a shrug, he turns on the bath, taking his clothes off and heading inside. He hears some shuffling from the other side of the door, akin to someone being slapped before footsteps walking away. But he don't think much of it and just focuses on taking a bath as quick as possible so he can enjoy his first day in the Boiling Isles. Yesterday doesn't count. Once he's done, he dries himself with a spare towel and puts on clean clothes, brushes his teeth, and exits to bathroom.

He exits just in time to bump into the Owl Lady herself, who looks like she just crawled out of a tomb.

Y/N: "Good morning, Miss Eda!"

Eda: "Ugh. Kid, drop the miss. I'm not an old lady."

Y/N: "Understood."

Eda waves him off and walks into the bathroom, closing the door behind her. Y/N instantly understood that she isn't a morning person. Neither is his mom, so he knows to give her time to fully wake up. With a pep in his step, he walks down the stairs and into the living room where he spots Lucia leaning on the frame of the entrance to the kitchen, casually scrolling through her phone as she's lost in thought. There is a visible red hand print on her right cheek. She didn't notice him until he was right in front of her.
