Chapter 1: A Lying Witch and a Warden

Start from the beginning

Luz was standing in front of her house with a downcast look while Lucia adjusted her beanie. Y/N was beside them to see them off, also sad to not have his only two friends with him during the whole summer.

Y/N: "I'll miss you girls. I promise to call every day."

Luz: "Thanks, I promise to answer your calls every time."

Lucia: "I'll probably be too busy becoming a soldier or something, but I'll make time for you."

Out of the house came Camila, still in her work uniform, and someone who seemed to like Y/N as soon as they met.

The couple walked up to their daughters, giving them a hug each.

Camila: "Oh, my babies. Now, don't worry, summer camp is only going to be for three months. You'll be so busy balancing checkbooks and learning to..."

Thankfully Manny placed a hand on her shoulder, stopping his wife from continuing that sentence. He crouched down and looked at Luz straight in the eyes.

Manny: "Mija, I know this is hard for you. Trust me when I say I would rather not have you going there, but you must."

Luz: "I know, papa."

Manny hugged her and turned to Lucia.

Manny: "And you, young lady. Take this as an opportunity to put your strength to good use. Who knows, maybe one day you'll be working alongside your old man."

He winked at her, making her chuckle.

Lucia: "High unlikely, but... sounds cool."

Manny kissed her cheek, making her back away. He held her arms so she couldn't run away from him.

Lucia: "Dad, stop that!"

Manny: "Let me love my daughter before she disappears for three months!"

Luz and Camila stared with smiles on their faces, while Y/N... Y/N had a longing expression watching the display. He didn't know why the man was kissing his daughter, but he felt like he should also get that sort of affection from his parents. If only they weren't so busy all the time. After Lucia gave up and surrendered to her dad's affection, Manny turned to Y/N with a smile and ruffled his hair playfully.

Manny: "Y/N, I know you'll miss my daughters. Trust me, they'll miss you too, a lot more than you care to imagine."

Luz: "Daaaad!"
