'"Could you tell us, in detail, what happened Miss Levi?" The police officer asked.

"I was driving to my family home when I saw her lying on the ground unconscious," I lied. "It looked like it had been a hit and run. I have never seen anyone in that condition before so I froze and kind of freaked out."

"Are you the one who called the ambulance?" The police officer asked.

"No, it was my brother, Ezra Levi. He called the ambulance when he arrived after me." I told him.

"Is this true sir?" The police officer turned to Ezra.

"Yes," he answered.

"Did you notice anything strange on the road? Or any other cars maybe?"

"No. I did not." Ezra managed to let out in a strong, clear voice. If it had not been such a terrible situation, I would have applauded him.

"Okay, thank you for your time. We will come back for the victim's statement when she regains consciousness. And if we have anymore questions for you, we will contact you."

"Yes officer. Thank you." I said.
Ezra was staring at me with his eyes narrowed as the police officers walked away. When they were out of earshot I turned to him.
"What is it?"

"I'm looking for guilt. I can't seem to find it," he muttered.

"What exactly do you want me to do? Of course I feel guilty. I could barely breathe when they were questioning me. I felt like my blood was flowing in the opposite direction."

"And yet you continued to just let the lies flow out of your mouth."

"Can you keep your voice down," I hissed. "What was I supposed to do? It's not like I'm lying for fun here. If this gets out dad will kill me and I might go to prison. Don't you feel the least bit sorry for me?"

"Why should I feel sorry for you? You're not the one lying in a hospital bed."

"Yes, I know I'm not. But all of this guilt is killing me right now. You have no idea."

"There's a way for you to relieve that guilt, but you just don't want to. So, don't expect me to feel sorry for you."

"You know what Ezra, if you're so righteous why did you help me? Why didn't you just tell the police what you truly saw and heard? You just lied to them too so, why are you lecturing me?" He opened his mouth to say something but closed it, pressing his lips firmly together. After a few moments of visible contemplation, he huffed.
"Call me when she wakes up," he mumbled and left me there.

"What did you do for your cover up?" Teagan asked. "I'm sure if your plan was to lie about this then you were going all the way."

Kaiya took the glass of water from the table and took a few sips, placing it back down.
"I contacted my assistant, Logan. He found someone to take the blame for the accident."

"Do you know who this person was?" Zahara asked.

"No. I never met the person. Logan took care of everything," Kaiya answered.

"What did Ezra do when he found out?" Teagan asked.

"Nothing. I mean, he was uncomfortable with the situation and he even stopped talking to me for a while, but other than that he didn't do anything."

"The Ezra I know wouldn't have let something like that slide," Zahara shook her head.

"What happened to the victim?" Teagan asked. "Did she wake up?"

Kaiya's eyes darted to the officer who had her eyes narrowed.
"Yes, she did. Thankfully."

Zahara leaned forward. "And what was her statement?"

"I'm not sure of her entire statement, but she did tell the police that she didn't see who it was driving the car. She recalled just hitting the ground and flashes of light, and muffled voices and a car screeching."

"And what was she doing on a dead end street at night? Was she on her way to your mansion?" Teagan asked.

"Perhaps. I'm not really sure about that. Maybe she was looking for one of my brothers, or Inez since it was around the time she was doing her dealings."

"What dealings?"

"She'll tell you when it's her turn."

"Okay, is there anything else you want to tell us about you and Ezra?"

"So, at one point he was really anxious about Melissa and everything. I don't know if he told you," she nodded at Zahara, "that was the day he and I met up outside his apartment building. This was a few days before his passing..."

'"So, what have you decided?" He asked me as we both sat down at the foot of his steps.

"What do you mean? What are you talking about?" I pursed my lips.

"The accident, what else? I heard that the lady is back in hospital."

"Maybe she's there for something else. Why do you assume it's about an accident that happened almost two years ago?"

"Of course it is, what else could it be? She's spent the past two years going in and out of hospital."

"Okay so what do you want me to do?"

"Just tell the truth about what really happened Kaiya? Isn't any of this bothering you? I'm not even the one who caused this but knowing who did is killing me."

"Just like how knowing all those other secrets is killing you too? Why don't you expose those?"

"What do you mean?"

"You know about my accident, fine, but you know who committed the espionage and you also know who the man Renata was with is. That's probably why you feel so anxious, it's because you're keeping all these secrets. Just like you've been looking away for these people, look away for me too. I'll make it up to her. I'll keep sending her money for the hospital bills and everything else she needs. Just please look away."

"I don't know if I can do that Kaiya."

"Ezra please, I am begging you."

"That was really too much. What is wrong with this family?" Zahara breathed. "My Ezra suffered so much because of you people. What is wrong with people?"

"Did he agree?" Teagan asked. "To keep quiet?"

"Yes, he did."
