CHAPTER 26: INJURED HANDS

Start from the beginning

"Yes sir!" She saluted, though not without another wince. "But..."

Seeing the change in her demeanor at that last word, I raised an eyebrow. "What?"

"Can I rest for a little bit longer?" the look in her eyes was pleading.

Almost immediately, I shot it down. "You rest when you sleep. You still have more training to go."

"Fine, I'll go." She pooched her lips in a temporary pout before setting her hands beside her in preparation for standing up.

Though, something interesting I saw on her wrist as she did that caught my attention and also reminded me of something...

"Wait, hold on a second." I put a paw on her side just as she began hoisting herself up.

She plopped back down with a confused look at me. "What's wrong?"

"Let me take a look at your injuries."

"But I don't— oh... right." She smiled awkwardly as she rested her arms on her lap.

Not needing any other reason, I hobbled around to her back and placed a paw just between her shoulder blades.

With a deep breath, I closed my eyes and focused on gently easing my numen into her back and through her potentia fluxus, analyzing her injuries through the weaker and stronger points of her numen flow.

Where the numen staggered the most was inside her right hand's palm and her ribs.

The other day when she had fought against Jisuk Yoo, she broke two ribs and cracked one when she tanked a hit to the abdomen.

Today, thanks to mild daily numen treatment from yours truly, one is completely healed, while the other two aren't quite re-attached yet, but they're getting there.

As for the wound on her palm, I neglected that the past couple days because I took priority on securing her ribs.

The problem with that though is the indentations and cuts left by her nails digging into the palm. They're infected.

I could heal them now, but I'm curious...

After implementing some of my preserved numen into her ribs and encouraging the healing process, I lifted my paw from her back with a light pat before crossing around her to her hand.

"Did you finish?" Jiwoo asked, expectantly.

"Not yet. Let me see your palm."

At that, she lifted her other hand to her lap and held it open. As expected, the skin around each cut swelled and the scabs were tinged with yellow.

"Digging your own nails into your palm to keep yourself awake is an interesting choice..." I hummed, lifting a paw to her open palm.

But just as I placed my paw against the cuts, my eyes landed on something rather unusual, just below her hand.

Jiwoo didn't seem to notice my moment of staring, as her eyes were closed and restful.

A scar ranged from one side of the inside of her wrist to the other, pale with time and not quite meeting the same color complexion as the rest of her skin.

Confusion lingered in the back of my mind, and I wasn't quite sure what to think as I stared at the oddity. I had never noticed it before, and for some reason, the peculiar spot in which the scar lingered invoked a sense of mystery; it made me feel like I was missing something...

"Jiwoo, what is this?"

At my words, her eyes fluttered open and landed on the same scar I was distractedly watching.
