CHAPTER 15: A GOOD DECISION?

KAYDEN'S POV:

.

.

She and I really need to stop talking so late.

I glanced at the clock for the fifth time this hour.

6:44 pm.

It was only six-forty four and Jiwoo was still napping. We both got zero sleep last night and now Jiwoo started sleeping through the day.

Not a good habit for someone who still has grades to keep up with.

Granted she has been asleep for roughly five hours despite the ruckus the three cats have been making, so I wasn't going to bother her.

Who knows, maybe she can sleep the whole day and make up for all the hours of sleep she missed this past week.

Doesn't bother me. I've been doing too much socializing anyway, and it's starting to take its toll on me.

I yawned, watching the three cats as they fought for a toy mouse. The black cat was triumphant. He stood about two feet away from the others, eyes sparkling with satisfaction as he held the toy half in, half out of his mouth.

It was a mildly funny sight to see.

Upon noticing something of a gray blob shifting in my peripheral vision, and knowing full well it was that mysterious new cat, I turned and observed it.

He was still asleep. So it seemed.

Jiwoo sat next to him, one hand on his back and the other perched upward by her shoulder as her head rested on the top of the couch backrest. She slouched, face bent toward the ceiling and unbothered by the previous ruckus the cats had made.

She was sleeping pretty heavily. I think her quiet snoring was enough proof of that.

Everything around me was complacent. Snow fell soundlessly in gentle sways just past the window, the three cats were now at ease, finding a place near the golden light outside that shined in on the floor. The sound of the heater quietly buzzed, and Jiwoo drooled as her head fell to the side.

Regardless of the peace around me, I felt unnerved.

I had never been around such a calm environment before. One so quiet and undisturbed. All my life, there was at least something dramatic or stressful going on in the background of my life, and to my strange realization, I had never really felt peace like this before.

It was peculiar, but I suppose it wasn't in a bad way. Certainly different from what I'm used to...

I shook my head from the silent daze of thoughts, looking back to the gray cat.

Looking at him invoked a new stream of thoughts.

That cat is going to put Jiwoo in danger.

I knew if I told her that then we would probably just bicker, her ending as the argument's victor.
