CHAPTER 23: OPPONENT

Start from the beginning

He continued, "According to her background check, she didn't know until recently that she was an awakened one. Her life must've been pretty difficult..."

"Yeah, whatever. Doesn't matter."

"Always a stickler, aren't you?"

"Says the old man who always acts like he has a stick up his ass—"

As you can imagine, the interaction didn't end well. But that's not important.

As it stands, I'm currently being forced to spy on some girl in my class like some sort of creep and report to 'Shinwha' once the day ends. At least I can just blame my sister and her butler if I get caught. I don't feel like actually trying.

From our last, brief interaction, She just seemed like a dimwit airhead who got lucky enough to dodge a bunch of thugs. Kind of fun to watch them all struggle against some weak-looking chick.

"Jisuk!"

Ah, speaking of said thugs...

The three of which I can't remember the names of all marched up to me where I was, at the intersection that led to my school and waiting to cross.

Now for some, vaguely amusing reason of which I don't know, they all looked like they got the shit beat out of them.

I wonder what this is about...

"What's up with your faces?" I suppressed the urge to laugh at the sheepish way their eyes wandered around. "Who did that to you?"

Another moment of silent, internal struggle passed through the three.

I don't have infinite patience...

"I asked you guys a question. Why aren't you answering?"

"That kid... from our school..." the one with black hair struggled to say, only to leave it at that and return to uncomfortable shuffling.

"Our school? There's a lot of kids who go to our school." I sighed.

"You know, the kid from before..." ah, snake boy this time. "The kid who dodged all our punches the other day...!"

Oh, that kid.

Ooh, so she beat them up? I thought with a hint of amusement.

"You messed with that kid?" I crossed my arms with a warning stare.

Snake boy flinched at my glare, resorting to aggression and shouting in self-defense, "We know you told us not to mess with her! But she... she got on our nerves when we were on our way to school!"

Cue the lies...

"Right! We even told her to stay out of our way!" the black-haired boy added.

"Anyway, she caught us off guard and beat us up..."

Jiwoo Seo, huh? And here I had the impression you were just some pathetic nobody.

Of course, you are awakened, so beating them probably wouldn't have been too hard, but...

The three thugs fidgetted under my gaze.

...man, you sure did a number on them. A cruel smile pulled at my lips, this might actually be more interesting than I originally anticipated...

"Jiwoo Seo..." said a particularly particular talking orange cat, bigger than a basketball and certainly much more fluffy than one.
