EXTRACTED FROM THE DIARY OF TOM M. RIDDLE

----

This new girl from America, Viviette Swan, is the most insufferable, irritatingly condescending brat I have ever come across.

She is...annoyingly smart, and utterly confusing. She laughs over nothing like a maniacal fool, and smirks as if she owns the world. She has somehow mastered the art of Occlumency, and knows things in Potions I haven't heard of-well, one thing. Adder's fork.

I have never heard of a thing like that before-perhaps they teach them more things in America than in here. Yes, that must be it. America has always been steps ahead of Britain, even in the Muggle world. If I was taught at America, I'd know much more than that pathetic, arrogant snob.

Still, it irks me; I have never met a person my age so skilled in Occlumency. I can't even get a glimpse of her thoughts. It's utterly pathetic.

I need to improve my Legilimens skills. The only people I have ever used my powers on were Hogwarts students, and most of them are ignorant buffoons.

I need to learn more about this Swan girl.
