CHAPTER 28: IN THE FRACTION OF A SECOND

Start from the beginning

I didn't even realize I was tensely clutching my paws at first. With each swift movement and swing out of the way Jiwoo did, I felt my muscles twinge, completely emerged in the ebb and flow of their fight.

But it was when Jiwoo's body seemingly disappeared for a brief moment that I felt the tension release and fade to confusion.

Where did she—

Jiwoo's body reappeared beside him with a fist thrusting toward Jisuk's jaw; the attack was narrowly missed but his control over the fight was dwindling away because of one simple reason.

Jiwoo's speed...

...she increased it!

Jisuk whipped a wind infused foot around to hurl it into her side, but Jiwoo evaded that too.

Swiftly ducking to the ground and supporting her weight with her hands, she twirled around with a leg thrusted in the air and whipped it around to strike his jaw.

Jisuk tanked the hit with the flat of his forearm, a dangerous look of struggle and vexation twisting his face and bulging the veins at his jaw.

Jiwoo's recovery was quick even without speed; whirling back around to a recoverable distance, she jumped to her feet as Jisuk condensed the wind at his fist and jabbed her fist toward him before he could reach.

Punch after punch, she never ceased and her speed only kept increasing while Jisuk stayed on the defensive.

His biggest mistake was getting cocky. He thought he could mimic her fighting style with his ability just to prove that he was stronger, but he underestimated how much skill she's gained over these two weeks.

To be fair, it's not like he knew, especially when he dominated their first battle, but what he doesn't know is that I'm here.

I'm the one who trained her.

Give me two weeks or even just one and I can turn anybody into a super fighter.

How?

Well, no reason...

Her attacks only grew stronger. The sheer strength of her onslaught must have put severe pressure on her elbow, and yet she didn't stop there. She couldn't.

She wouldn't.

...no reason other than the fact that I am Kayden Break.

The berserker of the awakened world.

The world's newest, and strongest rise in fame.

A genius.

"Jiwoo's doing amazingly well! I didn't know two weeks could have such a development on her." Ihyuk praised yet again. He seemed just as immersed in the battle as I was.

And it was reasonable, indeed. Watching someone you have interest in, rise from weakness to strength and being able to see the fruit of such things can be strangely satisfying, even for the strongest.

"But..."

But?

"It's a shame she's facing Jisuk."

I glanced up at him. His expression was regretful.

"Because even with all she's done, it won't be enough."

Jiwoo lifting her right arm, unbothered by her drop in her ability usage and instead going for a physical approach, mustered a raw and unpowered sucker punch straight to his jaw; I could feel my heart pounding by the action and I was leaning forward unconsciously on my front paws.
