Plus, it wasn't like I cared about her well-being anyway. It's none of my business.
...
But still, that weird old dude might just use numen and find the location of the cat. And if that happens, there's no reason why he wouldn't kill Jiwoo.
That cat is evidence of his crimes, and Jiwoo has that evidence. He's going to come looking for it.
This thought bothered me; Jiwoo isn't going to let that cat go due to her stupidity and weird sense of responsibility. She's going to regret her decision.
I furrowed my eyebrows, scoffing at the unbothered face of Jiwoo as drool dribbled down the corner of her mouth.
Just then, I heard a very short, quiet wince coming from Jiwoo.
I focused on her face, noticing the look of discomfort.
She must be having a bad dream.
Her eyebrows furrowed and her face grew increasingly red. Sweat formed by her brow and another more strangled wince escaped her lungs.
At that moment I had two realizations.
Number one, she wasn't breathing.
Number two, I somehow ended up on her lap, tucked against her stomach and crushing her lungs.
A horrific realization, really. I practically leaped with the might but not grace of a unicorn, scrambling toward the opposite side of the couch.
Simultaneously, Jiwoo jolted from her sleep, clutching her chest and coughing mildly concerning wheezes for air.
Her eyes were unfixed for a moment as she spent the moment trying to capture as much air as she could fit into her lungs.
She quickly came back to reality, searching the room and sighing when she saw an awkward Kayden pressed up suspiciously against a couch throw pillow.
"Mr. Kayden!"
My brain scrambled for something to say, but as soon as I swallowed in preparation for my next words, I ended up choking on my saliva.
The humiliation intensified.
She didn't seem to process my mild fits of coughing I tried oh so hard to contain.
"I just had the worst dream! I felt like I was being suffocated by a huge boulder!"
She gripped her stomach subconsciously.
The cough I tried so hard to hide just burst through my mouth at the words.
"Mr. Kayden...?"
The only response she was met with was violent coughing.
It was my turn to wheeze.
"Are you alright?" She raised her eyebrows in concern.
"Do I —cough— look okay?"
She didn't respond. For a moment she just sat there, confused and concerned, but most of all as still as a statue. But after a minute, she practically teleported to the side of the couch where I sat.
The sudden movement made me jolt backward and yelp probably one of the most embarrassing sounds I've ever made.
God help me.
.
.
Approximately 10 minutes later:
.
.
I sat up against a throw pillow, awkwardly, as I made it a point not to make eye contact with the person sitting across from me.
