Chapter 4: An Innocent Man

Barry nods.

Then a voice says "Daddy?"

Barry looked up the stairs and saw Dawn.

Barry says "Dawn. I'm--"

She came running down the stairs and hugged him tight.

Barry hugs her tight and says "I'm sorry, I didn't come home. I keep forgetting I got a daughter to look after."

Dawn says "I was so worried you were hurt."

Barry says "I'm fine, baby. I promise. I promise, baby."

Dawn says "Can I stay with you?"

Barry says "Why don't you go to my room? I'll be there in a second."

Dawn nods and she went to his room.

Barry asks "Do you want to stay? Or do you want to leave?"

Laurel says "I'll leave here for tonight. I'll see you tomorrow."

Barry nods and she leaves.

Barry sighs and looks up and says "Oh, man."

A voice says "That was harsh."

Barry turned and saw Thea put a hand on his shoulder.

Oliver did the same to his other shoulder.

Thea asks "Are you okay?"

Barry says "Sure. Second time tonight that a friend of mine... has taken me to the woodshed. Kind of tires you out."

Thea says "Yeah."

Barry says "Good night."

Oliver and Thea say in unison "Night."

Barry walks into his room and saw Dawn in his bed in a ball.

Barry got into his pajamas and got into bed with her and she cuddled into her dad's side.

Barry kissed her forehead and said, "I love you, sweetie."

Dawn says "I love you, Daddy." in a tired sleepy voice.

She snores and Barry smiles at her and watches her for a while before falling asleep.

Later

Barry was sleeping, turning in his bed. 

Flashback

Barry opened his wallet and took out a picture of Laurel.

He looked at it when the man in the hood was bringing a chicken.

Barry moves back a little as he set down a homemade cage with a chicken inside.

He speaks Chinese and walks away

Barry asks "What am I supposed to do with that?"

He says the same thing again

Barry asks "Does that mean 'bird'?"

He says it again

Barry shouts "I don't speak Chinese!"

The man gets up and Barry looks at the picture of Laurel

Barry says "I'm sorry, Laurel. I'm so sorry."

End of Flashback

Barry wakes up gasping.

Dawn stirred and saw her dad and says "Daddy?"

He looks at her and she says "Are you okay?"

Barry says "I'm fine, honey. Go to sleep, baby."
