Chapter 12 - Part 1

Start from the beginning

I look down at the phone still in my hand, holding it up to show that his name is on the display. "I was getting ready to text you to see if you'd seen my journal lately. I think the last place I saw it was in Hobi's room before moving over here with you. I was in the mood to write this morning while I was waiting for you to come back, but I can't find it."

"Why didn't you go ask him?" he grins at me, taking my phone and dropping it on my chair.

"I thought of doing that but realized I don't have a key card to get back in the room. I didn't want to risk it," I explain, then smack my palm to my forehead. "Ugh, I just realized I could've texted Hobi oppa to ask if it was there! He gave me his phone number to coordinate the surprise for your birthday, but I haven't used it since."

"So, what you're saying is that your first thought was to text me?" I see the huge smile cross his face. I twist my face up in mock outrage.

"Out of all that, that's what you heard???" I step out of his embrace and walk over to the desk, rearranging my things again, though they don't need it, a small smile spreading on my face when I hear him say my name in panic.

I don't respond, keeping my back facing him, waiting to see what he'll do. I feel him step up to me, touching his forehead to the back of my head and nowhere else.

"I'm sorry, Nae...I didn't mean to dismiss what you were saying. It just made me really happy to hear you say I was the first person you thought of..." I hear sadness and regret in his voice when he says it. The smile drops from my face, and I straighten my shoulders. He feels the movement and stands up straight as well. I turn around to face him. Looking him in the eyes, I lift my hands to cup his face gently.

"Oh my god, Jiminie, my love. I'm not mad at you. I'm not even upset that it's what you heard. I was interested to see what you would do. But..." I pause to search his eyes. "I want you to know that I will always think of you first. You are the first thought on my mind when I wake up in the morning, and the last thought before I go to sleep. You consume me, and you're the one person I want to go to when I have the need. There may be times in the future when I won't be able to go to you for something, meaning I have to go to someone else, but I will always want to go to you first. Don't ever doubt that, okay?"

He slowly nods his head, and tears spring to my eyes when I notice his own are glossy. "Oh Jimin, my dear, sweet man, you break me sometimes."

I pull his head down to rest on mine and close my eyes. Whispering, I say, "I would have been over the moon if the roles were reversed...and I found out I was the first one you wanted to talk to about it. I wasn't trying to hurt you..." My hands fall from his face to his chest, feeling his heart beating under them. "I don't know how to make this better..."

He steps back from me, and I drop my head, a single tear slipping out, and I watch as it drops to the carpet. Before I know what's happening, he's kneeling down on one knee in front of me, holding out a small box with both hands.

"I was going to wait until we were out today, to make it really special and memorable, and I had all this planned out... And I know we already talked about this and planned on it, but I want to ask you...will you marry me?" he says, opening the box. I look at his face, seeing love written on it. I look down, and there's a beautiful princess cut diamond ring sitting in the little black velvet slot. My eyes rise back up to his, and I see so many emotions flickering through them. I drop to my knees in front of him, taking his face in my hands again...nodding furiously, tears streaming down my face.

"Yes, Jimin, yes! I will marry you!" I cry out and throw my arms around him. He pulls me against his body, leaving no room for doubt about his feelings. Letting go, he leans back, pulling the ring from the box, and with a shaky hand, slides the ring carefully onto my own shaking finger.
