'He's out there partying with his friends in a club downtown today,' Jack tells me through mindlink.

Here I was working my ass off to keep him safe from the dangers of the rogues and vampires and there he was making it even for easier to attack him. I tell him to keep a track on him and not let him out of their site.

'Eloise Mirabelle Black! If you do not get your sorry arse out of that office within the next five minutes, you will see the worse of me, and trust me you do not want that for you, El!' Meredith screams through mindlink.

After my talk with the pack members two days ago, I have been holed up in the office, trying to talk with our neighboring packs for alliance, handling the paperwork that has increase because of rogues and helping two families transfer. While they wanted to stay here and fight by our side, both the families had seen enough loss in the past decade and with their mates carrying their babies, they couldn't risk it any more. I hastened the transfer process for the safety of the pregnant woman and both the families even showed desire to shift back with us once Turner was no longer a pressing threat.

I quickly wrap up what I'm doing and walk out of the office, feeling tired and sleep deprived.

"Oh goddess! You stink!" June says as she wrinkles her nose while stuffing her mouth with a pancake that Meredith is making. My stomach immediately grumbles at the heavenly smell of pancakes. Pancakes as dinner seemed like the most perfect option to me.

"Go take a shower, El, you stink. I'll have pancakes ready for you by the time you freshen up."

I murmur a quiet thanks and walk to my room which is on the second level of the pack house. I quickly take a shower and dress into a fresh pair of sweatpants and Jack's stolen sweatshirt. I suddenly feel like I'm so much lighter after showering after 4 days. I rub a towel through my wet hair and make my way down to the dining room where Meredith has a plate full of pancakes ready for me.

"Thanks a lot, Meredith," I murmur as I sit down and eat, almost moaning in delight at how delicious warm food actually tastes.

"So, I take it that you're not planning to go see him even if he's partying today,"

"And what do I tell him, June? I mean let's be practical, I'm a random girl, he saved me but there can only be so many coincidences, right? How can I bump into him again and again?"

"I know, El, I'm just sad that you have to stay away from your mate, I can understand how difficult it must be on your wolf to stay away from her mate,"

I just shrug off her comment. It is difficult, my wolf is constantly agitated because somehow, the presence of a mate around just keeps me at ease, now I'm constantly worried about his safety and constantly agitated because I am away from him.

'I don't want to alarm you, but I see two vampires,' Jack mindlinks me.

Fucking hell! I can't even eat a meal without the constant threats!

I take one last bite and stand up, June and Meredith are already out of the packhouse, getting the car ready.

"Can you imagine it? A girl in her sweatpants in a bar?" June snorts out, trying to lighten the atmosphere because tense atmosphere make her nervous and she starts rambling non-sense.

Meredith lets out a small laugh before placing a hand on her mate's knee and driving with one hand.

'Jack, what's the situation like?'

'Doesn't seem like they will be attacking him, bear. They're just here to constantly remind us of their presence.'

'Okay, but please just keep an eye on him.'

Luckily, the bouncers outside the bar let me in without mentioning the way I was dressed or asking my id. My eyes immediately find my mate, who is laughing at something his friends are telling him while he drinks. I walk towards Jack who is on the other side of the bar with his mate. They grinning at each other like complete fools as they dance and every now and then their eyes look over to where Nicholas was standing.

"Hi guys," I murmur softly, knowing with their wolf hearing, they heard me clearly.

"Hello Alpha," Sophie greets me as she bows her head.

"Hello Bear," Jack greets me as he wraps his arm around me and gives me a hug.

While he hasn't really forgiven me for the way I spoke to him a few weeks back, he knows how much I could use a hug. I don't expect him to forgive me because I know I was rude and judgemental. Sophie has been nothing but a sweetheart to the people of the pack. She's a ball of sunshine and I have found nothing suspicious. She deserves Jack and Jack deserves her. I found out that her pack was attacked by Turner and she along with a lot of the other orphans had been taken by Turner to join the rogue army, against their will. If they wouldn't join, they would be murdered brutally.

"Where are the vampires?"

"They're lurking in the dark outside, they haven't entered the bar yet, it's the bright flashy lights they're scared of," Sophie says as her eyes constantly flit to my mate before they widen.

"He's coming this way," Jack says.

"I think he recognises you," Sophie murmurs.

I bang my head on the wall behind me and curse. My heartbeat quickens at the anticipation of seeing him after weeks. I use my werewolf senses to hear his footsteps and my throat feels constricted as I hear him walk closer to me until he's standing right behind me.

"Hello, Nicholas," Jack greets him before they both leave us for some privacy.

"So, you're not even going to turn around and acknowledge my presence?" he murmurs as he clasps his fingers around my elbow and spins me around.

I look up at him and my knees feel week as I stare at his beautiful face. He's such a beautiful human being.

"Why did you leave that night when you were so severe injured? Did you think I'd take advantage—"

"No that's not why I left,"

"Then why? And how is it possible that I didn't hear you leave, I am a very light sleeper and I should have heard you leave,"

"I left because I was scared and before you ask anything, you were literally a stranger, a nice one no doubt but a stranger nonetheless."

"Right and somehow, I didn't take advantage of you when you were bleeding and unconscious on my bed but I would have when you were awake?"

"Well you can't blame me for being cautious..." I murmur as I look down.

"Really? Well then you can blame me for wanting to knock down everyone who's been following me around 24/7, now, would you?" he asks as he leans in and traps me against the wall with his hands on either side of my head.

"Why would you think I have anything to do with that?"

He smile a little as he leans in and whispers, "because for one, sweetheart, you're not good a lying and I can see that you are."

He leans back and looks at me with a lopsided smile and continues, "and two, I notice things, I saw you walk in with that friend who was following me three days ago and this best friend of yours has been tracking my movement ever since you left my house that night,"

"Right, I—"

"You're nervous, I like it," he says and then trails a finger from my shoulder to my fingertip, my skin tingles at the touch and I'm sure he feels it too because he looks at me with a raised eyebrow.

I was a fucking alpha and here I was a damn putty in his hands!

"You're not a werewolf by any chance, are you?"

I think I hear someone in the background say "Oh shit!" and also hear a glass break down in distance as my eyes widen at what he's just mentioned.
