Chapter 8: Suspicions

"Hm? Sanji?" I watch as he exits the kitchen with another drink, giving it to Nami and reacting the same way as he did with me. "Yeah, but he's like that with every girl he comes across."

"Does that bother you?"

.

.

.

Does it bother me?

My eyebrows twitch at the thought that had never crossed my mind before. Confusion was barely noticeable on my face as I recall all the times he'd act towards other girls vs how he'd act when it was just him and me.

"I guess I have my answer." Ace let out an empty chuckle as he watched my face closely before coming to a conclusion.

I shook my head, denying the man. "I'm not in a position for it to bother me."

"But we both know what that means right?"

My eyes shift to the freckled boy next to me only to see his onyx eyes watching me carefully. Trying to change the subject, I smile teasingly at him as I lean close to his face. "What's up with all these questions? Jealous?"

He scoffed before sending me a cocky grin. "In your dreams."

I smiled in response, ignoring the stupid feeling in my chest that always taunts me every time I talk with him. I knew deep down that he didn't feel this feeling as well and I was alright with that. I knew the day he left that even if he could ever think of me like that, it would never work. Maybe it's best this way. At least, that's what I would tell myself to make me feel better.

"Oh! I'm Rice Ball Captain Usopp!" Usopp had his finger stuck in the middle of a rice ball as Luffy held up a snowman made out of rice. "Oh! And who's that?"

"Rice Ball Man!"

Sanji smacked the two over the head with a frying pan, frustrated and angry. "Don't play with our food! If you need something to do that bad for wash dishes or something!" He walked up to the sink and rolled up his sleeves. "Jeez, I need to finish our packed lunches before we cross the river!"

Ace watched with his chin in the palm of his hand on my right side as I rubbed Luffy's head out of sympathy. "Need some help?"

Sanji perked up at the sound of Ace's voice, probably a question he hasn't heard in a while, before smirking at him. "No, no you're a guest! You just sit back and relax."

"What about me Sanji?" I pointed to myself as my head tilted with a small smile. "Can I help with anything?"

His arms shot up in the air as he twirled around the table and to my side before grabbing my hand and smiling up at me with hearts in his eyes. "Don't you worry about a thing Y/n-swan! A beautiful princess like you shouldn't bother herself with such tasks! Your prince can handle it!"

Ace's smile seemed to falter as he watched the interaction, not that I noticed. I was too busy laughing at the two boys bent over, washing dishes in the same mop bucket we use to clean the floors.

"Don't wash the dishes in the mop bucket, you idiots!"

I stand up from my seat to check up on everyone else. Chopper was laying on the stairs, using the wind from Zoro's training swings to cool down. Vivi and Nami spoke at the deck about something incoherent.

Ever since being on the ship I've started to admire Zoro more. It made sense why he was so strong when we first met now. He trained like crazy and his determination never wavered. It reminded me of my mother in a way.

"Chopper!"

The reindeer sat up at the sound of his name to see me standing at the bottom of the stairs, but far away to not get hit by Zoro. "Yes, Y/n?"
