Attending a stakeholders' ball was a somewhat new experience for me as this was my first time after running away from Dante in years, and I couldn't help feeling a bit anxious.

Despite my nerves, I made a conscious effort to fit in and navigate the unfamiliar setting to the best of my ability.

For the next hour, my attention was fully devoted to accompanying Dante as he made his way around the room, introducing him to the key stakeholders who held significant value for his company.

As my primary responsibility had been to familiarize myself with their names and roles beforehand, I made sure to confidently guide Dante through the crowd and facilitate meaningful connections.

It was difficult to grasp the sudden shift in my circumstances. Having fled from my previous husband in one country, I now found myself in a new land, wrapped in my husband's arms once again. It all seemed surreal.

Faith clearly didn't want to see me happy.

"You look so familiar to me, as if I've seen you before. Do I know you by any chance?" One of the females said to me catching our attorney.

"I doubt it." I chuckled a little taken aback by her assumption.

A thick silence settled over us as Dante observed our exchange with a watchful eye. Realizing that the situation could easily turn unpleasant, I frantically searched for an escape route.

It dawned on me that the woman recognized me as Dante's previous, which explained her apparent familiarity with me.

Feeling a sudden urge to excuse myself, I swiftly left the group of women surrounding Dante and made my way through the crowd.

As I walked away, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy at the attention he was receiving from those ladies.

I headed over to the table with the fancy finger foods before carefully choosing what I'd eat.

An uneasy feeling crept up on me, and I sensed that someone was watching me intently. Turning around, I locked eyes with Dante, who seemed to be silently observing me. Just as I was about to look away, I noticed a familiar face in the distance, headed straight towards me.

"Mark." I hugged happily.

"You look absolutely stunning." He complimented.

"Thank you." I blushed.

"What are you doing here?" I questioned him.

"Well, we did end up canceling lunch the other day, so I decided why not come here to have it with you." He joked and I slapped his shoulder playfully.

"It's supposed to be a secret, but my father is a stakeholder in Dailyplus care." Mark whispered in my ear making me gasp in surprise.

"My father believes that if I'm able to work hard then I'll get what's coming for me, he's one of those old-time guys that doesn't want to reward a lazy son." I chuckled nodding my head in understanding.

"Who is this beautiful young lady, Mark?" A seemingly older man tugged at my hand before placing a kiss.

My eyes darted a little taking note that Dante while conversing was still observing everything that I was doing.

"Faith this is my father Ralph, Dad meets Faith, she's works as Mr. Harrison's personal assistant." Mark introduced.

"You are gorgeous, now I see why my son has an eye for you." Ralph confessed making me chuckle as Mark tried to scold his father.

"Could I have a dance with you?" Mark requested as I took a hold of his hand.

"Of course." I smiled, giving Ralph a small wave.

"Sorry about that. I had to rescue you from my father's long-winded stories about my life. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want to sit through that," Mark said with a chuckle as he pulled me closer, his arm encircling my waist. I responded by placing my hand around his neck.

"On the contrary I would've love to have heard." I smiled.

"You wouldn't want to hear how my childhood was boring growing up." I laughed but before I could continue further Dante stopped us.

"May I have a dance with my assistant?" He asked or seemingly demanded coldly whilst staring me in the eye.

"Of course." Mark responded.

My heart thrashed quite fast as I laced my hand around Dante and his hand laced around my waist making me blush.

"You seem to be getting quite acquainted with everyone yet seems to forget why your here Miss. Emerson." Dante spoke and I could hear the seriousness in his voice.

"It looks like you're having a good time mingling with everyone else, so I figured I'd take a little break," I said, looking up at Dante's unyielding gaze.

I felt the need to explain myself, hoping to alleviate any potential misunderstandings. "I'm sorry if I gave the wrong impression."

"Tell me Ms. Emerson, what is the relationship between you and that boy. You seem to be quite close to him?" My blood boiled as he said this.

"I don't believe that is anything that concerns you Mr. Harrison."

"I have to admit, it does concern me. You know that relationships within the company are strictly off-limits. I need to understand the situation so I can figure out why you've fallen behind in your work, which is why you're now on probation," Dante said, his tone stern. I could feel my lips tighten as I tried not to express my anger towards him.

I glanced to the side seeing that a few women were staring at us with displeasure.

"The only reason why I have been falling behind is because of my babies, Mr. Harrison. And I wouldn't have it any other way." I could feel tears welling up in my eyes.

Dante, the man who had once cheated on me and put my life in danger, had the audacity to now dictate how I should live my life. I couldn't help but wonder what his problem was. After all, he didn't even know who I was.

I caught a glimpse of regret in Mr. Harrison's eyes, but before he could say anything else, Mark intervened, saving me from any further discomfort. I breathed a sigh of relief, grateful for the interruption.

"I just wanted to let you know that I'm going home and if you'd like a ride home?" Mark asked.

"I will take her home." Dante stated.

"No that's fine. Mark will drop me home." I informed him.

I simply could not let Dante know where I was living. Thankfully whatever address was on my records at my work wasn't what was on my current address now.

The intensity in Dante's eyes sent a chill down my spine. There was a mix of emotions swirling in the depths of those eyes, a storm of anger and hurt that was both palpable and heartbreaking.

His jaw was clenched tight, and his fists were balled at his side. Without a word, he turned and left, leaving me aching for a resolution and wishing I could take back my words.

Somehow, I knew this wouldn't go down easily and this wasn't the end of what I had caused.

I had a feeling that things were only going to get worse from here.
