“Assalam Alaykum wahramatullahi wabaraktuhu” Mrs. Nuhr greeted. Adeela smiled and looked up from her prayer.

“Walaykum salam wahramatullahi wabaraktuhu” She answers as she makes space for her

“Jumu’ah Mubarak” Mrs. Nuhr smiles. She joins Adeela on the prayer mat.

It is Fajr time. Adeela has just finished praying Salatul Fajr so she wants to read Suratul Khaf. She is the type that reads Suratul Khaf on Friday after she finishes Fajr prayer. She reads the Surah in one sitting. She loves reading the surah in the morning.

It makes her feel fresh. She feels ready to start her day and have a great day. Besides, she doesn’t like reading the surah in the afternoon or evening especially during Jumu’ah Prayer. She dislikes reading Qur’an or doing anything when she goes to the mosque.

She pays full attention to the Imam as deliver his Khutbah. She also prefers to sit in the front so she could hear the Khutbah clearly. She gains so much knowledge from Khutbah. She makes sure she implements the knowledge in her life.

Khutbah is an Arabic word that means sermon. The Friday Khutbah is done before the Jumu’ah prayer. It is a key component of Jumu’ah. The Khutbah is obligatory. Without it, the Jumu’ah pray is invalid.

“Jumu’ah Mubarak to you too” Adeela wishes her. She continue reading Suratul Khaf. After a while, Mrs. Nuhr joins her. Enjoying each other presence, they finished reading the Surah.

“It feels god reading the Qur’an together with someone” Adeela breaks the silence. She spent almost all her life alone. Her mother demises. Following her mother’s demise, her father unfortunately succumbed.

Her father’s death was painful for her. She was just an adult. She barely knew how to survive. Luckily, Allah saved her when she needed him the most.

She pulled herself together and worked smartly to where she is now. Still, Adeela was so used to being alone that she stays alone. She believes that she doesn’t need anyone except Allah.

“It is” Mrs. Nuhr smiled at her. She has always read the Qur’an right from her early years, to during her marriage even after her husband demise, she still holds on to the Allah. No matter how busy or tired she was, she reads the Qur’an. Every night, she reads Suratul Mulk.

The prophet (S.A.W) recommends reading Suratul Mulk every night before going to bed. By doing so, it is said that one would be protected from the torment in the grave.

“I used to read with my husband every morning before starting our day. When I had my son, we would do the same as family. It was so beautiful and serene. May Allah grant him Al- Jannatul Firdaus. Insha Allah. Ameen” Mrs. Nuhr recalls. Adeela looks at her, she looks as if she is still down in memory lane.

“Ameen ya allah” Adeela says. Mrs. Nuhr smiles.

“Why don’t we get ready. We have a busy day ahead.” Mrs. Nuhr states as she gets up. Adeela nods and places the Qur’an in the right spot.

“See you in a bit” Adeela waves at her. Adeela moves to get ready. She bathes and starts getting ready.

She wears a nude silk abaya kimono embellished with lace at the edges paired with a black inner gown and black jersey scarf. She puts on a half-covered black heels, carries a nude bag and finished the look with jewelries.

“Masha Allah. You look great” Mrs. Nuhr compliments.  I sheepishly smiled.

“Thanks?” Adeela thanks even though she feels unsure of what she said.

“Let’s go” Mrs. Nuhr encourages her to move.
………………
“Get this file to the accounting department. Tell them to get back to me. After that, schedule a meeting with the board of directors.” Mrs. Nuhr instructs.

“Yes ma” Adeela goes to the job. Work had begun.

As the clock strikes twelve, Adeela stretched out. She has been working nonstop.  She goes to her boss office. Habeebah has also been working. One could clearly see as she typed fast with one hand and at the same was writing with the other.

“Let’s eat” Adeela catches her boss attention.

“Hmm” Habeebah barely replied.

“Come on! Let’s go. I am hungry” Adeela whines while pouting.

“Adeela, you are always hungry” Habeebah chuckles. It grows to a full blown laughter when she sees Adeela glare.

“Ten minutes, okay” Mrs. Nuhr negotiates.  Adeela’s eyes widen.

‘A whole ten minutes’ she thought. Her stomach grumbles, agreeing with her. She can’t wait for so long.

“No way! Five minutes” Adeela states

“Seven minutes”

“Three minutes”

“Five minutes, deal?”

“Deal!” Adeela agrees while smiling. She has won. Habeebah shook her head at her childish behavior.
…………

After eating, the two of them decides to go to the mosque, wanting to pray to Jumu’ah prayer in congregation.  They listened to the Khutbah as the Imam preaches against backbiting.

Allah says in the Qur’an: ‘O you who have believed, avoid much (negative) assumption. Indeed some assumption is a sin. And do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is Accepting of Repentance and Merciful” Quran Chapter 49, Verse 12.

Allah prohibits backbiting and likens the act to eating a dead person flesh.
Habeebah suggests that they ditch work and go to her best friend house. Adeela had no objections, seeing that they have been working nonstop. Besides, how will she hesitate to go to the Ibrahim’s residence knowing that they are a whole lot of delicacies waiting for her to munch.
Her stomach rumbles in excitement as she thinks about the food that is waiting for her.
Ah…food!

 Ah…food!
