Something isn't right.

That's the first thought that crossed your mind as shuffled in your tight, warm receptacle, awakening from a deep torpor at a sudden shift from outside.

You shuffled, adjusting your weight in your enclosure. Though you were unable to see, you knew there was something off with your nest. Sure, it was pleasantly warm, but you could sense that it wasn't familiar. Not only was there no sounds of the crashing of waves, but you couldn't sense your mother's presence. Normally, you'd awaken to the sounds of her heartbeat overhead, and the sound of her soft, silky voice singing to you. But at the moment it was comparatively silent at the moment.

Did she move the nest?

"--just found it on the beach!"

Huh? You were startled by a voice sounding from somewhere.

"It's still warm... and I even heard it's heart beating!"

Though it was slightly muffled, you were able to make out a male's voice. For a split second, the masculinity in said voice registered in your infantile mind as your father. Throughout your incubation, you've heard your mother conversing with a someone- a clearly masculine voice, that held the same amount of warmth and enthusiasm.

"...so I took it here to keep it safe until we find out where it's from."

Wait... Analyzing the voice a bit more, you realized something was off.

"What kinda bird to you think this is?"

The more he spoke, the less familiar it sounded. While you remembered that your father sounded enthusiastic, you also remembered his voice being much deeper and more mature then the one that was speaking.

While it was still masculine, it was far from deep.

Who was this?

"Well... It doesn't look like an egg from any bird around here."

Then came another voice. This one was clearly feminine and light, but didn't quite have the Greek accent of your mother. You then felt your world shift as your egg was lightly prodded.

"...yeah, it's far too big to be any seagull's egg. "

You shuffled slightly, hearing your own heartbeat pick up in speed as a sense of alarm and discomfort arose in your mind.

If they weren't your parents, who were they?

What did they want with you?

"It's really pretty though..." You heard the female muse. "It's a really vibrant shade of (color)."

"Yeah, it is... I like the (color) speckles. They look kinda like scales." The male said softly. You felt your egg get picked up into a pleasantly warm embrace. "Bet it's gonna be something pretty when it hatches."

Despite yourself, you found the kind words of these strangers to be rather comforting.

There was a period of silence.

"Yeah... But it also looks like it's gonna be something pretty big... and maybe rare." The feminine voice fretted. "We should be careful with it."

"We can handle it! We've established peace the galaxy; so we can definitely watch over a big mystery bird's egg!"

You didn't quite know what was going on, nor did you fully understand what was being said, but you slowly found yourself growing more accustomed to the warmth that you were held in. You felt a sense of safety...

"Even if it does hatch, I'll keep them safe."

And his voice... It was so calm, yet enthusiastic and self-assured like your birth father's.

"Yeah... you're right." The female agreed. "I'll do some more research on it. That way if their parents do come around, we'll be prepared."

You liked the sound of that.

There were more things being said, but the warmth surrounding you had you fall back into a content slumber.

You may not know what had happened, but at least you were in a safe place...
