Chapter 66 | Mental meetup

"Explain... Please" I pleaded, feeling like I was moments away from my brain exploding.
"See, we Zalga's and Zalgo's have the ability to open these nifty little portals to where we want" Zalga explained, with me slowly nodding along. "While we can't travel through time, we can travel through and across dimensions-slash-the multiverse... sort of" she added, albeit unconfidently.
"Sort of?" I asked.
"It's sort of a gray area" she stated with a shrug. "Some of us can do it with ease, but personally I'm still trying to figure things out. The best I can do is going to and from the dimension that now houses my castle" she explained, doing her best not to confuse me further.
"Hence the portal issue..." I mumbled.
"Exactly" she confirmed. "I only recently managed to hide my castle in the dimension it's now in, not even a week ago it used to just be within the forest - much like my sister's house" she continued, slowly catching me up to speed.
"I see" I said simply, nodding along.
"However, I can still interact with other dimensions without going into them myself" she continued, now grabbing my full attention.
"Define 'interact'" I asked, less confused but more curious.

"See, my portalling abilities are second to none" Zalga stated confidently, all of her mouths flashing a cocky smirk as she spoke. "Because of this, I can open one way portals into our dimension. This allows me to either draw people across, or summon objects" she explained. "Take for example that werewolf man you fought last night. He was someone I 'invited' into our dimension" she added, the battle quickly flashing through my mind.
"You did that!?" I yelled angrily. "Why!?" I asked, evidently upset.
"At the time, I had recently got a lead on finding Nightmare. Someone who I thought I was romantically involved with" she said, holding her hands up in surrender. "So, I thought a wolf-man would be ideal to track him down. Obviously, that was a mistake" she added, somewhat bitterly.
"Oh yeah" I mumbled, remembering mine and Zalga's first encounter. "Sorry about him. He's..." I began, unsure of how to continue my apology.
"A complete and utter asshole?" She said simply, her sentence making me smile a little.
"Exactly" I agreed, with us both sharing a small laugh.

"I must say" Zalga began. "I was anticipating some sort of fight when I made myself known, both today and last night" she stated, her tone sounding more relieved than anything.
"Well, like you said, you're not from any of my timelines. For all I know you could sweetest person ever" I said simply, shrugging a little at the end. "Although, given our interaction last night, my guard is most certainly up" I stated, rubbing my neck at the memory.
"I'm sorry about that. Like I said, I had concerns that you may attack so I wanted to strike first" she explained, bowing slightly as she apologised.
'An apology? That's certainly a surprise' I thought. "Can't say I blame you for that one" I said aloud, making Zalga smile a little as she stood tall once again.

"Anyway..." I began, changing the subject. "You said you're not the same Zalga that you were, what'd you mean by that?" I asked.
"That one... is a little harder to explain" Zalga stated, speaking somewhat nervously.
"Well I've got time to kill" I said, sitting down and looking at an imaginary watch on my wrist. "It's either talking to you, or having to consciously run laps around the field for the next two hours" I said with a shrug, crossing my legs and looking up at Zalga.
"Why would you be running around a field? Are you training?" She asked innocently, sitting down in front of me.
"It's a punishment. Didn't you see it happen?" I asked. I had previously assumed her role functioned like Nightmare's, although her genuine curiosity now had me second guessing.
"I haven't seen a thing. Despite being able to come here, I can't see your memories or through your eyes" she explained. "That's why I called it 'incredible' after all" she added.
"You can't?" I questioned, raising an eyebrow in skepticism. "Then how do you explain knowing about the werewolf?" I asked skeptically. I was worried that I may have caught Zalga out on a lie, and I quickly readied myself for an ambush.
"That's because he and I were linked since I had 'hired' him" she stated, using air quotes during her explanation. "I did some digging after his defeat, and eventually found out about you" she added. "After our 'meeting' last night, I decided to come back today... and I've been stuck here for a good hour now" she concluded.
