Lisa noticed both the peculiarity of Jennie's silence and the shift in her expression. The instant she saw her eyes redden, she couldn't help but furrow her brows.

She asked in an extremely concerned voice, "Jennie, what's wrong? Are you feeling uncomfortable somewhere?"

"You don't want to divorce?" There was a hint of bitterness in Jennie's voice, but her tone was rather cautious, as though she was struggling to make the most difficult decision of her life.

"I..." Of course not! But Lisa couldn't say that. Even though her heart was brimming with reluctance, she couldn't bear to cause her wife distress. She took in the look on Jennie's face and went as far as to begin blaming and resenting herself for bringing up the question just now.

She already decided to comply with her wife's wishes, and she was painfully aware of how disincline the latter was towards their marriage, so why did she have to open her big mouth to ask Jennie that question?

Damn!

How would she see her? Would Jennie think that she was unwilling to separate because she was infatuated with the power and influence that came with being married to her? Would she assume that she was greedy and didn't know her boundaries? Would she dislike and feel more disgusted with her?

She'd clearly exerted herself in an effort to do everything well. She always tried her utmost at acting, at working, at preventing Jennie from hating her, and at making her like her; and yet, the result was nothing short of despairing.

Her efforts weren't enough to exchange for even a smile from Jennie.

Maybe divorce really was the best choice. She would release her from the chains of their marriage, let her be free to do what she wanted to do, and she... as long as she could stay in a place where she couldn't see her and be allowed to silently watch her and silently like her, then that would be enough for her.

"I'll go make breakfast. After we eat, we can go file the divorce." Lisa was a decisive person. Since she had thought it through, then no matter how much pain she was feeling in her heart, as long as it was for Jennie's sake, she would proceed without hesitation.

For a moment, Jennie was astonished. Lisa's reaction had fallen far from her expectations. There was no doubt that she liked her. Why was she so accepting and cooperative about the divorce? But then immediately, she understood. In her past life, wasn't she just as straightforward?

The previous her had assumed that it was because she didn't mind, but now that she had gotten the whole picture, she was finally able to make sense of her thought process. Lisa was probably doing it for her, so like a fool, she was selflessly complying.

After grasping this point, Jennie felt more guilty and sad.

"Let's eat. About the divorce... we'll talk about it next time." Regardless of the reason behind the woman's compliance, she herself did not wish to divorce yet. Whether it was due to guilt or for other reasons, she was willing to give herself and Lisa another chance.

Due to being an orphan who had learned to be self-reliant since childhood, Lisa possessed exceptional culinary skills.

However, on this particular morning, she was almost scared to cook. She didn't know what was wrong with Jennie, but she stayed behind to stare at her as she made breakfast. She fumbled and nearly confused salt for sugar.

The atmosphere at breakfast was very weird. Lisa tried to stay as silent as possible as she focused on eating her food, but nonetheless, she could feel the uncomfortable burn of Jennie's gaze on her.

So many times, she wanted to ask her what she was looking at. Was it because she hadn't washed her face?

When she thoughts reached this point, she started to feel even more uneasy. Because she was stressed out over the divorce, she had unwittingly sat outside Jennie's bedroom for an entire night.

Her appearance was most likely a disheveled one, and she didn't know whether or not Jennie would shun her more for it.

Aside from her gaze, there was also something else nagging at her. Jennie had said they would discuss the matter of their divorce next time. Did that mean they weren't going to divorce? Not yet, at least?

What kind of disposition did Jennie possess? Lisa and anyone else who was familiar with her knew that she was a typical case of self-centered and assertive. No one could change her mind for her, and it was within reason to describe her as someone who often assumed an air of self-importance.

All of this contributed to one point: Her decisions would almost always be carried out with no changes or exceptions made to them.

And yet now, she was changing her mind about the divorce. How could Lisa not feel skeptical? Unfortunately, she could only keep all of her doubts bottled up inside. She was not qualified to ask.

In any case, temporarily not divorcing was a good thing.

She cherished their relationship, regardless of how stiff it was. Maybe it was because she knew that she wouldn't receive much, so every little bit became immensely treasurable.

Jennie stared at Lisa as she ate with relish; her culinary skills were excellent. Tremella congee1 and small steamed dumplings2, complemented by a few stir-fry dishes... just looking at them made her -someone who'd lived the life of a human vegetable for two years- feel moved.

One would not know how to cherish something until they've lost it; this saying couldn't be more accurate.

"Lisa." A simple address, and yet it was Jennie's first time calling her by something so intimate. Lisa was visibly stunned. And then, with some disbelief and restless tentativeness, she responded, "Yes?"

"Breakfast was very good... thank you." Jennie sounded a bit unnatural as she expressed her thanks, but that didn't affect the sincerity of her words. She thanked her for not only breakfast but also everything she had done for her in her past life.

Because she was oblivious to love and it was too foreign to her, she couldn't guarantee that she would be able to reciprocate her feelings, but the vow she had made to herself back then was genuine.

"You're welcome. If you like it, I'll make it again next time." Lisa's voice contained a trace of uncontrollable giddiness. This was her first time being praised by Jennie, and it made her heart race and her mind fall into a dream-like state.

At twenty-eight, Lisa was older than Jennie by two years, and not too long ago, she became the nation's youngest Starlight Award winner. Her public image was depicted as a high and superior one.

Distant, indifferent, pretty handsome, and domineering-she gave off the impression of an unapproachable female goddess who could only be viewed from far away.

Only in front of Jennie would she be reduced to a silly and shy girl. Only in front of her would she reveal such an awkward and naive expression.

As she took in her flustered state, Jennie couldn't help but start to scold herself.

How blind was she in her past life to not notice the woman's feelings for her?! She was so useless!
