Unexpected Dynamaxing

Start from the beginning

“Haha! Okay, okay. We’ll stop.” Lynelle gave Charizard one last pat before letting him hang out with her Pokemon. She gestured Leon to walk with her alongside the lake, which he complied.

“It’s been two days and you haven’t faced Turfield’s gym leader yet.” Leon blurts out. Lynelle hummed in response. “Yeah. I wanted Kirlia and Growlithe to have some experience in battling so they’d have a good I dea on what it’s like. Duraludon was willling to take part as well despite... what happened.” Lynelle ends her sentence, the memory of Duraludon’s past trainer still makes her angry.

“Ahh, makes sense.” Leon smiled, not wanting to continue to topic any further just from the toe of her voice. He understood her anger towards Duraludon’s past trainer, he felt the same way. But he doesn’t let that become something to hold on to, and he knew Lynelle feels the same way.

“Y’know, Hop, Gloria, and Victor already completed their first gym.” Leon changed the topic, Lynelle hummed in amusement.
“Really? Good for them!” Lynelle giggled. “Since they consider me as their rival, I should catch up to them.” She eagerly says, earning an amused smirk from the man beside her.

“So that’s why those kids seemed excited. Endorsing them in the Gym Challenge was a good idea after all.” He says as he looked directly to Lynelle, smiling wide. The ravenette softly laughs at his statement, but she couldn’t help but be happy knowing that his younger brother, Victor, and Gloria were happy to have her as their rival.

“Is that so? Then I definitely won’t disappoint the-.”

Lynelle stopped walking, her gaze glued to something in a cone-shaped structure in the mix of pink and red just up ahead of them. Leon noticed her stopping abruptly. “What’s wrong, Lyn’?” He looked at her confused. Lynelle only pointed towards the weird structure. “What’s that?” Leon look towards where the ravenette was pointing at and sighs in relief.

“Oh that? That’s a den. Though It looks like nothing is occupying it at the moment.” He says as he begin walking towards it, Lynelle following behind him.

Upon closer inspection, Lynelle couldn’t help but be wonder what was inside. The entrance was wide but she wasn’t able to see what was inside. She remembered what Sonia desrcibed what the dens were. ‘Dens are also powerspots aren’t they? I don’t feel anything…’

Just as she was about to touch it, the entrance glowed bright red and pink. The ground shook and intense wave of pressure shot out of the entrance. Then, a loud roar thundered from underground. The surface shook and Lynelle lose her balance. She would’ve fallen on the ground had it not for Leon catching her in time.

“Woah…Something is down there.” Leon blurts out as he helped Lynelle balance herself again. Then a bright red light suddenly protrudes from the den.

“GROOOAAGGGGHHH!!!”

The ground shook violently once again by another loud roar. Yet this time, it sounded as if the humongous creature underneath was in immense pain. Lynelle could hear it, its cry sounded like it needed desperate help.

“That doesn’t sound good…” Lynelle mumbled out loud. She looked at him, his face full of worry confirmed her assumptions of the creature down underground. It needed help.

“Yeah… with the exception of the ones already living within dens, wild Pokémon aren’t as familiar with the feeling of getting dynamaxed. Which in turn causes confusion and fear in a Pokémon when they dynamax.” Leon gulped, the feeling of anxiety beginning to rise in him

 “GROAAAGGGGGHHHH!!!”

The ground shook more violently from the loud sound. The roar sounded more like a yelp of an injured Pokémon. Lynelle and Leon’s eyes widen in shock as cracks started to appear and red beams of light began protruding from it.

“The situation’s starting to become dire…” Leon started to take initiative. But he soon realizes that he didn’t bring his dynamax band with him. He cursed himself for not being prepared.

"I have to stop this!” Just as Leon was about to call his partner, Lynelle gripped his jacket and made him turn his attention towards her.

“I’m coming with you.” Lynelle looked at him a sternly, but Leon shook his head. “Lyn’ you don’t know how Dynamaxing wor-“

“Then use mine!” She cuts him off and hurriedly takes off the band. Leon immediately stops her from doing so. “It doesn’t work like that, Lyn’. You’re already wearing it, meaning you’re the only one who can activate your dynamax band.” He explained as brief as he could.

Lynelle looked back and forth from him to the den, trying to figure out a plan. She learned so far that a raid battle and another dynamaxed Pokémon can be possible to defeat a Dynamaxed Pokémon. But how can she save that Pokémon when she has never dynamaxed before. Then she looked at Leon.

“Teach me!”

“Huh?”

“I said teach me. If I am the only one who can activate my dynamax band, then I need someone to teach me how to use it.”

Leon wasn’t sure how to respond. Sure, he’d love to teach her. But with the current situation they’re in, he’s not risking her safety. “I could… but aren’t you afraid?”

He did not expect her response.

“Of course I am!” Lynelle looked at him in disbelief and slight anger. She couldn’t believe that he had said that. “I am a Pokémon Ranger, of course I’ll be facing danger AND be afraid.”

Leon looked at her, he did not deny how determined she was on saving the Pokémon below, even go as far as to face it without any knowledge on dynamaxing. She really is a Ranger, and he was wrong to have underestimated her. Again.

Leon sighed and smiled at her. “Alright. I’ll teach you.”

“Raa!”

Both of tgem turned towards the sound of Lucario‘s cry. Their Pokémon all ran towards them in worry. “Perfect timing.” Lynelle sighed in relief and braced an incoming hug from her Growlithe and Kirlia.

She explained the situation with her Lucario, who nodded in agreement to be the Pokémon she’ll be dynamaxing. With a plan prepared, she returned the rest of her Pokémon back into their Pokéballs.

“Alright, let’s go.”

Both Leon and Lynelle jumped into the entrance of the den and slid down to the very bottom. The inside of the den felt like another world. The abundance of galar particles gave immense pressure in the air, and the red hue intensified the feeling of dread. She made a mistake to underestimated the size of Galar’s dens.

They made it safely to the ground level of the massive den, the ground shook violently the second all of them stepped the ground.

“GROAAAAAAAGGGH!!”

Lynelle and Leon covered their ears from the loud, ear-piercing roar of the distressed Pokémon in front of them…

…A Dynamaxed Gurdurr.

“GROAAAAGHHHHHH!!” The Pokémon was in a frantic state of mind. Its eyes displayed the look of fear and confusion. It then held its metal weapon up and banged it against the walls. It was the source of the earthquakes, and if not stopped, it could lead to catastrophic situations.

“Lyn’…”

“Yeah…

… we're saving it."
