Stepping out of the club, I close my eyes and let out a deep sigh.

After the night I had, I'm ready to empty every single wine bottle I own.

"Had your fun?"

Turning my head to the left, I see Robyn leaning against the wall with a cigarette hanging between her lips, with a cloud of smoke surrounding her.

Walking up to her, I snatch the cigarette that's between her lips and bring it up to my mouth. I inhale the smoke in my lungs and blow it out.

"He's a screamer, that's for sure." I pass the smoke back to her.

She hums while taking the last drag of smoke and crushing it on the ground with her heel.

Noticing the lack of her companion, I ask, "Where did the golden guy go?"

The left side of her lip slowly turned up into a smirk and her eyes fluttered close with a satisfied hum. "Why? Did you want a go with him too?"

I glared at her, and with no reply, walked past her to the car.

"I'm gonna take that as a yes," she giggled behind me.

"No, this means 'I was walking away, so I'm not tempted to leave you on the side of the road'."

"Oh, please. You don't mean that," she confidently states, which brought a smirk to my face while keeping silent, "right?"

"Think what you want, Robyn," I said over my shoulder as I opened the driver's side door.

I leaned my elbow on top of the door and waited for Robyn to catch up. While waiting, I recalled Mark's words he said to me.

You're a monster.

I couldn't deny his words because he was right. I am a monster. But I wasn't born one. Life shaped me into a scarred monster.

Not every monster you meet is bad. Some were once human beings with a soul as soft and smooth as silk.

There were people whose silk was stolen from their souls and got turned into this... this so-called monster.

There was a time when that silk was ripped off of me, but one small piece still got stuck in my soul. It gave me hope for the future. It gave me something to hold on to.

But after years, I realized it held me back from defeating the monster that left scars on my body, heart, and soul.

It made me realize it takes a monster to defeat a monster. So I had to make a choice. Either I don't become a soulless monster or I fulfill the promise I made to myself.

So I ripped that last piece of softness off of me. I made sure there was nothing stopping me from doing the promised.

"So pizza for dinner?" Robyn suggested with a wiggle of her eyebrows.
