A Winter Surprise

Start from the beginning

The triplets grabbed Miranda's wrists and began dragging her through the castle — laughter leaving the four of them. It had become a game to the three long ago, but Miranda never minded. She knew it was because they were excited to show her something, and that thought alone made her heart swell.

Mia, on the other hand, was busy helping Isa make breakfast. The two worked quickly to finish the meal, only stopping when the door to the kitchen opened. A smile spread across Mia's face when her eyes landed on the toddler, her eyes shifting to Isa when they sighed.

"I told her to keep an eye on you," Isa muttered as the toddler ran up to them. "Alright, you can help with breakfast, Costin."

The toddler giggled as Isa picked him up, making Mia's smile widen. "So this is your son? I'm shocked that the fates allowed Hekate to change his DNA."

"Correct. I was shocked too, but we're both glad they did. He loves helping in the kitchen, which is the only reason Alcina let me keep my job."

"Even when married to her daughters, you still want to work here?"

"If I'm not working, I'm not being productive. Besides, someone has to make sure the new maids know the rules."

The two laughed before finishing breakfast and sending Costin to tell everyone it was ready. By the time breakfast was wheeled into the dining hall and the table was set, Costin returned in the arms of Bela — the rest of the lords following close behind. Once everyone was seated, Mia stood and dismissed herself for a short while, making Miranda send Alcina a confused look.

"Uncle Sal," Daniela called, gaining everyone's attention. "Who's this?"

All eyes shifted to the new face in the room, making their face light up in a smile. "I'm Rae, Lord Moreau's butler. Uhm, I don't care what pronouns you use for me. Oh! I'm a demigod, same as Isa and Hunter. My father's Apollo."

"That explains a lot," Isa murmured with a faint smile. "I thought that smile looked familiar. All children of Apollo have that smile — one that quite literally lights up the room."

Everyone laughed at the exchange until Mia returned, making all eyes fall on her. A gasp was followed by the sound of a chair scraping against the floor, Miranda's eyes widening slightly at the baby in her arms. Mia made her way closer to Miranda, placing a kiss on her cheek before handing her the baby.

"Surprise," Mia whispered with a smile. "Isa went through a lot to get her soul and combine the two."

"Combine? So, Rose is-?"

"It was the only way," Isa spoke up, a sigh passing their lips. "Well, the only way the fates would allow it to happen. Any other way would result in the fates taking her away again."

"I see, in that case, thank you still. Eva Rosemary Winters."

Mia rested her head on Miranda's shoulder, letting Eva squeeze her finger. "Our daughter."

"I guess that means we have another sister," Karl said after taking a drink of whiskey.

"I can make her a doll," Donna offered, making Miranda's smile widen. "Or new clothes."

"Both work," Miranda hummed as she and Mia took a seat. "Now, on to life updates. Hunter and Donna?"

Donna fidgeted momentarily before lifting her left hand, revealing a ring. "Hunter proposed."

After everyone settled down with their congratulations, Miranda questioned the next couple. "Alcina?"

"I have a plan," [Y/N] muttered before taking a sip of their tea. "Next couple."

"Karl?" Miranda chuckled.

"He better propose soon," Basil grumbled, his right ear twitching angrily.

"Stop upsetting my familiar, Karl," Isa huffed and narrowed their eyes.

"Finish the ring then, Isa."

"If it wasn't the holidays, there would be a knife in your chest by now."

Laughter filled the room before everyone began to eat, Miranda having placed Eva in a cradle that was brought in by a maid. After breakfast, everyone left the dining hall and moved to the opera hall — a place everyone enjoyed and could move about freely in. Miranda stayed near the door as she watched everyone interact civilly for once, a content smile spreading across her face. Mia pressed a kiss on Miranda's cheek before softly giggling.

"What are you thinking about?" She inquired while rocking Eva.

"Just... I've never seen them get along like this. It's like we're finally a family — the family they've all always wanted. The family I promised them."

"Because we finally have the missing piece. The piece you set out to have from the very beginning."

"It shouldn't have taken that — I realize that now. I'm just glad I was able to give them this."
