In hushed tones

5 1 1

In hushed tones
I hear them speak,
their words call to me
pleading for help
the very help I can't give.

In hushed tones
I still hear them,
wishing they could be
as free as the birds
but they're caged like animals.

In hushed tones
they cry out,
their voices sound so clear
as clear as crystal
who else can hear them
hear their sad echoes.

In hushed tones
they keep pleading,
only the brave can hear
those pleading voices
but would they ever end?
questions keep arising.

In hushed tones
they ask these questions
but no more
no more will they speak
in hushed tones.
