Earth, Jan. 10th 2017 @10:32 AM. The vibrant sun shone down the hundreds of people scurrying around. Some tried to find space for pick-up games of volleyball, some curled the sand between their toes, and others built grand castles, or small huts. Nonetheless, their structures all succumbed to the all-consuming wave.
Kids ran around screaming, kicking sand. and splashing water on Crystal Blue Point. And with their floaties equipped, they ventured out with their parents and friends for some fun in the water.
"Mommy! Can I go swim!" A boy called out, pointing at the vast ocean.
"Yes, baby. Just stay in sight."
Happy as he can be, he ran straight to the water with his floaties and snorkel on. The cold water resisted him, but he kept moving on.
He was only a few feet out before he caught a glimpse of something coming up from the water in front of him. Unsure of what it was, he ran back to shore screaming.
"Sweetie?!" His mother called out, both her and her husband stood up to comfort their terrified son.
"Mommy!! Daddy!!" He screamed with his arms out. His father took him in and patted his head.
"What's wrong? Tell me what happened." He said gently.
"Th-There's someone in there and they were coming at me! I think it's a monster!"
"I'll handle it, stay with your mom." He said, standing up and walking up to the shore.
It was a slow pace because it could be anything in there and didn't want to leave anything to chance. Over the brief moment, he began to see the same thing his son ran from.
Bit by bit, the person rose from the water. Their soaked hair covered their eyes, and their clothes sagged from the weight. Starfishes, seagrass, and a small squid on the top of his head were over their body.
They walked on the sand, picking up the sediments in the grooves under their shoes. They walked in a straight line as people parted to the side, unsure of what to do but watch or record.
"Oh my god...is that a child?" A beach-goer asked.
"Kid, are you okay?" The dad asked, attempting to stop them by their shoulder, but they kept walking.
The son started screaming again the closer the mysterious child got, but his mother comforted him and pulled him off to the side.
The child kept walking across the length of the beach until they reached the sidewalk, only then did someone finally step in and stop the kid, firmly grasping them by their shoulders and kneeling in front of them.
"Sweetie, can you hear me? Everything alright?" The woman asked. She was on a walk with her daughter when she noticed the kid.
She moved the hair from their face to reveal the lost eyes. They had a stale blue to them, but it was still something.
"Oh you poor thing, where's your mom and dad at? You shouldn't have all these things on you." She said, picking off the squid and starfishes.
"Mom...dad?" The kid mumbled. They couldn't see very well from the light, but their eyes were beginning to adjust. They started to pick up their surroundings and stared at her face. She was a young mother, and her gentleness reminded her of a special someone.
Secondly, he noticed the display of TV screens behind her. They studied their own reflection, and panic began to rise before they could fully realize it.
"Wh-What the...What? No...No!!" The kid escaped her breakable hold and ran at the window, hoping it wasn't real.
"What's the matter, honey? Favorite screen is sold out?"
