Rui Kamishiro was never the one to have many friends growing up. He was often seen as the "weird kid" or "Freak" by the children of his neighborhood. Yet, his neighbor and friend Nene Kusanagi never believed anything the other children would say.

Y/N L/N, being the out-going little 6 year old she was, also didn't believed anything that her fellow neighbors said.

Y/N's mother always told her to "never judge a book by it's cover", and that's exactly what she did. Y/N confidently walked down the street towards a certain purple haired boy and grayish-green haired girl.

Smiling, the H/C haired girl politely asked if she could hangout with the duo.

Surprised, the purple haired boy happily accepted the girl's offer and allowed her to join in on the duo conversation.

The boy introduced himself as Rui Kamishiro and introduced the girl who shyly stood behind him as Nene Kusanagi.

The trio seemed to have hit it off since their conversation seemed to never end. It only ended when Y/N's mother called her home for dinner.

From that day forward, Rui and Nene had found a new friend who shared the same interests as them. Those interested mostly involved theater.

This was the start of a new friendship with a girl that didn't find Rui as a "weirdo."

Rui was excited at the thought of having a new friend, and so was Nene.

From that moment on, Y/N, Rui, and Nene has become inseparable. They always hung out with each other and Y/N would defend Rui from anybody that picked on him. She would also go over to Nene's house to watch the musicals that Nene recommended.

Things started to change in middle school when Rui developed feelings for Y/N. But, Rui never confessed since he didn't want to ruin their friendship with Y/N if she didn't return the feelings.

Rui also noticed how his classmates would talk behind his back whenever he was with Y/N.

Y/N noticed that Rui was becoming more distant. She tried to cheer him up by helping him with the school's annual play.

But it didn't last long when their classmates saw how dangerous the play was. When they saw how Y/N helped him plan the dangerous stunts, their classmates started to hate more on Rui. They thought that Rui had done something to convince
Y/N to help him make a dangerous play as a revenge for their attitude against Rui.

Rui and Y/N didn't participate in the play that year. The day of the play, Y/N spent her time talking and brainstorming ideas with Rui for future plays where Rui, Nene, and Y/N could all act out with no one's criticism. Seeing Y/N smile while talking to him, Rui couldn't help but feel happy.

Unfortunately, fun times can't last forever.

One of Y/N's teachers recommended for Y/N to switch to a more advanced middle school. Her parents thought that this was a great opportunity for Y/N, so Y/N and her family moved to a different city.

Y/N never got the chance to say goodbye to Rui and Nene.

After Y/N's move, Rui became even more of a loner. The disappearance of Y/N left Rui with a broken heart. He never got the chance to reveal his feelings towards her. Rui tried getting in touch with Y/N via text, but his message would never reach her number.

Nene would occasionally visit him in order to keep him company, but even she couldn't help Rui with his heartbreak.

Years later, Rui, being a second-year student at Kamiyama High, was able to find a troupe who appreciated his talent. He was even able to help Nene live out her dream. Even though the troupe faced many challenges together, that only made the troupe grow stronger.

A troupe made out of a pink energetic girl, his childhood friend, and a loud-confident orange-pinkish haired boy, Rui found a way to be happy again. He even became best friends with the troupe's orange-pink haired leader.

On an early school day, Rui was seated on one of the many benches on his school's roof when an out of breath Nene came up toward him. Nene told Rui something that made him run from the roof towards the school's entrance.

Nene tried her best to keep up with Rui, but she fell a little behind due to her being exhausted from running outside, towards the roof, and now she was running back outside.

Rui swiftly made his way towards the entrance where he saw something he thought he was never going to see again.

Well, more like someone he thought he would never see again.

Overjoyed, Rui calmly walked his way towards her.

The second ever friend he made, his second childhood friend. His middle school crush.

Even though confessing his feelings right after seeing his crush after years was a little too fast, Rui was going to take his chances.

He didn't want to wait any longer. He cursed at himself for not confessing sooner. He had to tell her how he felt.

Before reaching his crush, his smile faded when he saw...

...his best friend's hand intertwined with his crushes hand.
