victor's POV

Her disdain for us was palpable, and it hurt me deeply to see her treat us with such contempt. But despite everything, I couldn't help but feel drawn to her. There was something about her that intrigued me, something that made me want to understand her better.

As I sat in my office, going through my work, my thoughts kept drifting back to Bella. Was she really just a troubled teenager, or was there something more sinister at play here?

As I was going about my business, Giovanni entered the space abruptly, without even knocking on the door. I groaned inwardly, already knowing that he was going to be a nuisance.

"What happened now?" I asked, trying to keep my voice even.

"I heard your interaction with Bella. Don't worry, she'll come around," he said, trying to sound reassuring.

I couldn't help but roll my eyes at Giovanni's optimism. He had always been too naive for his own good. "I appreciate your optimism, Giovanni, but I'm not so sure. Bella's disdain for us runs deep. I'm not sure she'll ever accept us as her family," I replied, my voice heavy with frustration.

Giovanni frowned, clearly not happy with my response. "But she's been through so much, Victor. Maybe if we can just show her that we care, that we love her, she'll come around," he said, his eyes pleading with me.

I understood Giovanni's sentiment, but I knew that it wasn't that simple. "It's not that easy, Giovanni. Bella's been hurt too many times. It's going to take a lot more than just words to gain her trust," I said, my tone firm but gentle.

"You can go now since I've got a lot of work to do," I stated sternly, hoping that he would take the hint and leave me alone.

Dejectedly, Giovanni exited the room, and I was left with my thoughts again. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. There was a sense of foreboding in the air, and I knew that I needed to find out what it was.

 hours later

God, it's already three o'clock. On the spur of the moment, I head downstairs and get a cup of coffee. I quickly approached Bella's door as I was walking. Interestingly, the door was open.

I saw that she was awake at that moment. She was awake as I looked over and suddenly seemed to be having a nightmare.

"What do I suppose, in the mighty name of Jesus?" I muttered to myself, unsure of what to do.

I made a tiny left shift and peered inside, watching as she managed to unwind in a short while. She seemed to be in a state of shock.

She gets up and walks over to the washroom. I could hear the sound of the shower being turned on.

I sighed and moved downstairs while I considered. She looked like she was having a nightmare. I take a big breath and make some coffee.

I took a drink, and my ideas were clear. In good time when she comes around we will know. She won't be coerced into speaking by me. I rationally get to the conclusion that's best. I return to my room to complete my mountain of papers.

I was ignorant of the fact that a storm was on the way.
