Chapter 9

"April, I will find you." Evan whispered darkly.

Suddenly I was tied to a chair.

Whips hitting me hard, making my skin redden and bleed.

"No! No! Let me go!" I cried.

The whips hit me harder, making me cry out in pain.

Tears streamed down my face.

Suddenly the whips stopped and a knife was stabbed into my chest.

The pain was unbearable.

Blood poured from my chest and my breath came in rasps.

"I won." Evan said.

I woke up screaming.

My body wet with sweat and my face soaked with tears.

My heart hammering in my chest as I tried to breathe.

"April?" Luke asked, as he shot up.

I let out a sob.

Luke moved closer, wrapping his arms around me.

I leaned against him and cried.

"It was just a dream. You're safe." He said to me.

"It was Evan." I choked out between tears.

Luke's jaw clenched.

"That bastard." He mumbled.

I buried my head into his chest.

He stroked my hair and just held me.

I sat up and reached for my water bottle on the nightstand next to the bed. I took a large drink.

I put it back on the nightstand and curled back under the covers.

I sighed. "It was just a dream." I whispered to myself.

Luke came up behind me, wrapping his arm around my waist and pulling me into him.

I smiled and closed my eyes.

He exhaled on my neck, sending tingles down my spine.

Then we fell asleep.

I woke with a start. Another nightmare. I sighed.

Two in one night. Will they go away? I looked at Luke, sleeping peacefully next to me. I smiled and stared at him. He looked so adorable.

"Staring is rude." He mumbled, his eyes still closed.

"How did you know I was staring?" I asked in shock. He breathed a laugh and opened his eyes.

"I am magic." He said, smirking.

I laughed. "Uh huh, sure, babe."

"I love when you call me babe." He said then kissed my nose.

I smiled.

I rolled onto my back, staring at the ceiling. Are these dreams going to go away? Are they a sign that Evan is going to kill me? I sighed.

"What are you thinking about?" Luke asked.

"I had another bad dream." I said. "After I fell asleep again last night."
