The Opening Act (A Splatoon Script)

Part 5 - Only the Start

Echo: Well, don't forget that other teams have to pull their weight, too! (They talk.)

Coral: Sweet rings of calamari! We did it!

Brooke: Awww... (The scoreboard appears. Team Squid Sisters won.)

Coral: Yes! We're staying fresh with that heavenly melody all night long! Nothin' beats the Squid Sisters! (She's really excited.)

Brooke: I still think Ebb & Flow is the best song. (Juliuz and Echo watch the screen.)

Juliuz: Seriously? She thinks that Ebb & Flow is better than the Calamari Inkantation? After the fight we had with Nariko?

Echo: I know! But maybe she's reading off a script or something. (They start to walk off.)

Juliuz: Oh, I just remembered! I got a little something for you!

Echo: For me? Juliuz, you didn't have to. (Juliuz snaps.)

Juliuz: I know, but I still wanted to. (He holds out a small box.)

Echo: Hmm... a small box. Is this a-

Juliuz: Oh! Uh, nope!

Echo: I know, I'm just messing with you. (She opens the box.)

Echo: A charm? Juliuz, this is amazing! (She holds a small charm in the palm of her hand. Half of it is the octoling symbol while the other half is the inkling symbol.)

Juliuz: Yeah, I thought you would like it. You said that you like to get a charm for your necklace every time something big happens in your life, so I thought that what we just went through deserves a charm. (Echo puts the charm on her necklace.)

Echo: Thank you! I love it! (She hugs Juliuz. He's a bit surprised.)

Captain: Ah, I had a feeling that you two kiddos would become close to one another! (They stop the hug as they look back at the source of the voice.)

Juliuz: Cap'n! What are you doing here?

Captain: I was looking for you. (They turn, the captain is approaching.)

Captain: I wanted to thank both of you for all your help. Without you, I don't think we would've made it. Who knows, we might've had a war with the Octarians if you two hadn't stepped up. (He speaks.)

Captain: I understand if you don't want to come back, but we could really use your help if another situation arises. With Agents 3, 4, and 8 still missing, I believe we may still need your help. (Echo and Juliuz listen.)

Brooke: If it's extra backup you want, you'll need more than just the two of them. (Echo and Juliuz turn.)

Echo: Oh, hey guys! I thought you were in the studio!

Coral: We were, but we got out early! [whispered] Plus, what you saw on the screens wasn't really live. It hardly ever is. [whispered even quieter] Please don't tell anyone I said that! (Coral and Brooke approach with their agent gear on.)

Captain: Well, this is a nice surprise. Do the four of you believe you can help the agents again if we need you? (He speaks.)

Echo: You can count on us any time, Cap'n! (All four of them agree.)

Captain: Well, then I guess that makes you official agents of the New Squidbeak Splatoon.

Coral: Wait, really?

Captain: Of course! You've all done very well. (They talk.)

Captain: I look forward to working with you young agents again. I'll see you soon. (He walks off.)

Coral: Ooooooooh! We're really secret agents! How cool is this? Wait wait wait, we're gonna need special agent codenames! Like a secret identity!

Brooke: Shhhh! Don't announce that to the world!

Coral: Right, sorry. (Coral is excited, but Brooke shushes her.)

Coral: But still, I think we should have some codenames, just to make things more fun! And maybe we'll need to keep our names a secret, anyway. Let's see, I could be Agent... Coral? No, too not-creative. Agent 7? Agent... ah, I can't figure out any good ones.

Brooke: Aaaand... it's time to go, Beanie. We'll see you guys around! (They walk away.)

Juliuz: Well, Coral at least seems excited about this. But do you really think that you're ready to be an agent? Now that I think about it, I don't know if I am. This will be a huge responsibility.

Echo: I think I am. Even if we're unsure, we'll help each other. (They talk.)

Echo: We're one big family now, after all. (The setting starts to shift as the city celebrates the end of Splatfest.)

Echo: And we'll stick together, right? (As the setting keeps shifting, there's a seemingly abandoned building in Octo Valley.)

Juliuz: I guess you're right, Echo. (A slime trail leads to a door inside the building.)

Juliuz: Maybe this is only the start to something big. (Some slime trails lead to different parts of the building inside. A big container of the slime has silhouettes inside.)

Juliuz: No, I KNOW that this is only the start. (The silhouettes of two people become clearer.)

Juliuz: I get the feeling that we're going to have lots of great adventures together. (One of Nariko's experiments- the Inktoling Twin Experiment, is visible. There's a set of twins- a boy and a girl- inside the container, asleep.)

(The Inktoling Twins open their eyes.)
