The Opening Act (A Splatoon Script)

Part 5 - Only the Start

Blair: I demand answers! What happened to you?! How are you an octoling? And what are you doing with... HER?! Have you lost your mind?! Are you even the real JZ? (Blair points a finger in Juliuz's face. He just stands there with a smile.)

Juliuz: Yeah, it's the real me! A lot has happened to me since the last time you saw me, you wouldn't even believe it!

Blair: But that was just two days ago! I don't get it! How did you turn into one of those things? (She's highly confused.)

Juliuz: Oh, some evil scientist kidnapped me and experimented some stuff on me that turned me into an octoling.

Echo: ! (She looks surprised as Juliuz reveals what happened.)

Echo: [whispered] Juliuz! Why would you say that?! (She hisses at him.)

Blair: This isn't funny, Juliuz. Be reasonable and tell us the truth.

Dax: C'mon, man. (They look frustrated.)

Juliuz: Fine, fine. The truth is... I have no clue what happened. How's that? (He shrugs.)

(He winks at Echo, she smirks back.)

Blair and Dax: ... (They both hesitate.)

Dax: Well, he's clearly still Juliuz.

Blair: Yeah, I guess you're right. I guess it's okay if you don't know what happened.

Juliuz: Thanks, guys. (They talk.)

Blair: But that still doesn't explain- her. You wanna explain that to us? (Blair is still suspicious and crosses her arms.)

(Juliuz and Echo glance at each other.)

Juliuz and Echo: Nah!

Juliuz: You wouldn't believe us, anyway. (They look humored.)

Juliuz: C'mon, guys, give Echo a chance! I assure you, you won't regret it! (He gives her a side hug.)

Blair: *sigh* JZ, you-

Dax: Hey, if JZ of all people can make friends with her, so can we. (Blair appears very frustrated, but Dax steps up.)

Blair: Fine, fine. Mya's still out, so we need a fourth teammate for Turf Wars, anyway. (Blair straightens her glasses.)

Juliuz: Thanks, guys! I knew you'd agree! [muttered] It's not like you could've had any say, anyway, since I'm the captain and all. [excitedly] Now, how about we go enjoy Splatfest? We've got to defend Team Squid Sisters!

Echo: Yay! (Juliuz has his arms around his team.)

Coral: I don't know about you, Brooke, but I'm happy to be back on the air!

Brooke: Same here, Coral. Things really were crazy while we were off-air. (Brooke and Coral are in their studio.)

Coral: No kidding! What do you think happened? (She talks.)

Brooke: An alien invasion? Universes colliding? Fate working in strange ways? We'll never really know, will we? (She seems a lot more animated than she usually does.)

Coral: Those are strange theories. Aaaaanyway... Splatfest is over, people!

Brooke: And we've got the results right here! (They talk.)

Coral: Whoa, Brooke. That's like, a huge honor to have! Tell us the results! (Juliuz and the team watch the results on the big screen in the square.)

Juliuz: I bet you anything that Team Squid Sisters won! We kept winning over and over!
