Melodies in the dark

A cold night.
Frost grew over the windows even as the duvet kept you warm.
you watched and listened to the rain talking through the night- somewhat it didn't let you sleep, allowing your brain to be empty, content to exist and be.
you started to count the droplets that hit the window one after one in your head- as you tossed nas turned beside your sleepy boyfriend wasn't your exception tonight- you couldn't sleep.
your eyes went wide as you rolled over and came face to face with Jungwon. “Can’t sleep?” He asked straight away.
the pitter-patter of the rain is far too violent to be soothing, and you find it a little difficult to just fall asleep while it sounds like the world is ending around you
You nodded with a huff as you pulled the duvet further around your body, “I’ve tried everything to get to sleep but I just don’t seem to be able to sleep"
“How is it that it’s two am and you can’t sleep? “
His left hand slides up and down your waist as he looks down at you with a warm smile it's clear that you’re both tired, but there’s an uneasiness that never quite goes away;
a fear that he could be ripped from you any second now.
he watches you closely, watches the way you bite the inside of your cheek and how far-away your stare is
“I don't know jungwon- go back to sleep” you mumbled under your breath not wanting to disturb his sleep.
He grabs your waist, pulling you into his chest, “ go to sleep right now. Like now. Close your eyes.”
your eyes snap open to find jungwon already looking down at you, a little startled and possibly a little embarrassed to be caught staring at you.
neither of you say anything at first, just staring at each other in comfortable silence
You try to giggle but your cheeks are too squished against him.
Jungwon lets out a soft low sigh and slowly releases you in defeat.
You lay your head on his right arm, as his left moves up to touch your hair, before he starts to speak a melody.
He was singing for you.

For when you do,
you will recall
how the beating stops

eyes lock mine

until the end of time
You open your eyes to meet his caring gaze. It’s cold nights like these that remind you why you love him so much.
You are the sweetest melody on these eyes and ears. He could wrap himself up in your words and sleep more soundly than a baby.
“I love you so much. You know that right?” He tiredly whispers, “I love you, my girl.”
His voice was barely above a whisper.
His words were so sincere, so real, so present. He meant it more than he had ever meant anything before.
“I love you, jungwon.” You returned the sentiment. He would never know just how much you really, truly, madly loved him and his voice.
"I've never heard you singing this song before?” you asked, still hugging him close to your body- “did you like it?”
“i did-”
“because?”
“it's about us- it's us”
“It's us- you and me.” Those were the last words you heard before you let the darkness of the night consume you along with the warmth of your boyfriend- with one thought running your mind.

“Good night, my love”
Your hair tickles his neck but he doesn't dare to scratch partly because one of his arms is already wrapped around you, locking your own against your sides. It only tickles for a few moments anyway because in a matter of seconds he’s curling in deeper, snuggling his forehead against your throat while his legs clamber into your lap.
He fell asleep too.
Being loved is a sensation to embrace, yet if you have never felt the real thing before it can be scary. Anything new can be this way. It is a step onto a new path, the ground feels different, the air has a new aroma, and the music you feel within begins to change. Love will change you. Love will lift you higher if it is the real deal.
