Darryl/Bbh POV

I wake up, yawning, and reach over to shut my alarm off.

It's a Monday morning, and as much as I want to sleep, I have to get ready for school.

Dragging myself out of bed, I walk across the hall to take a shower.

The hot water wakes me up a bit, and after 15 or so minutes, I'm out.

The weather lately has been surprisingly warm for late fall, but still cold enough that I opt for a hoodie.

My outfit is simple, and very similar to the same attire I wear every day: ripped black jeans, a black t-shirt and my favorite black hoodie with red stripes along the sleeves.

After I'm dressed, I grab my phone and make my way downstairs to see my mother already in the kitchen, a mug of coffee in her hand.

"Good morning, Darryl, did you sleep well?" She asks, not bothering to look at me.

"Yes mom, thank you." I nod.

I don't exactly have the best relationship with my parents. We used to be very close, the perfect image of the perfect family. But after I came out as Pan, they've treated me differently.

My father mostly just ignores me now, but my mother has gotten very strict. Perfect grades, perfect behavior, model child.

I go through the motions, I've learned not to disappoint them.

I'm not allowed to have friends over, unless my friend is a girl.

I guess my parents think that over time, I'll just become straight again, no matter how many times I tell them I'm still interested in girls too.

Glancing at the time, I realize I don't really have time for breakfast, so I just grab a granola bar and head out the door.

Seeing as my school is only a few minutes away, I usually walk, and that's what I do today.

The air is crisp and cold, but I keep walking. God knows my mother wouldn't be happy if I wasted her time asking her to drive me.

As I walk, I check my phone, seeing my best friends, Cara and Vincent spamming me. They're both already at school, so I speed up a bit.

◇ ◇ ◇ ◇ ◇

As I near the entrance of the school, I see my friends by a large oak tree. We usually meet up here, so I'm not super surprised.

"Darryl!" I see Cara waving frantically at me, and Vincent rolls his eyes.

"Hi Gu-" I start, but Vincent cuts me off.

"You'll never guess what happened this weekend!"

"What?" I ask.

"You know Zak right?"

I nod, he's like the most popular kid in school.

"Well, he found out his boyfriend was cheating on him, and they broke up!" Vincent is talking a mile a minute. "Now, practically everyone hates Clay. He hasn't even come to school yet, and to be honest, I doubt he will."

"I feel so bad for Zak. He always seemed so in love with Clay." Cara says.

"Yeah," Vincent replies. "You guys weren't here yet, but I saw Zak today. He looked horrible, like he got no sleep last night, and he's definitely been crying."

Cara and Vincent continue to talk about Zak, but I just stand off to the side, not really talking.

I nod along with my friends to show I'm listening, but in my head I'm worried about Zak.
