"Homecoming is tomorrow night and I still don't have a date," I frown at Caleb as we move around the store. "Or what to wear."

We are searching for our outfits today. Shocking his hawk of a girlfriend let him out of her sight today, and yes, I still don't get along with her.

"You could always tag along with me and--"

"Third wheeling with the most obnoxious person on Earth? No thank you. I'd rather go with Conrad from my chemistry class."

He pauses behind me. "And by obnoxious you mean Barb not me, right?"

"Duh," I roll my eyes with a small laugh. At least we can still make fun of her, even though it's not often with how defensive he gets sometimes.

"Oh, and Conrad is a douche."

"No, he saved me a seat yesterday. He's actually really sweet and kind and smart and--"

He cuts me off by adding, "and... when did you turn into an ass-licker?

I smack his firm chest on instinct, making him laugh hard.

"Am now questioning your taste in guys, cause man you suck. " He says making a face.

"I actually question the people that like me." I toss him a death glare. " I mean do they seriously think they're my type? no pun intended." Pun definitely intended. I can miss a chance to mess with Caleb.

"You are a sucker for douchebags." He mutters lowly, stopping a few feet from me as he pretends to look at a shirt on the hanger. "You never told me what happened with your ex."

"Lucas." His name rolls out of tongue without realizing it. "But you know what happened."

Feeling awkward, I also pretend to be checking out some clothes until Caleb's hand stops me, forcing my eyes to his.

"You can always talk to me Skyler, you know that, right?" He puts a hand in his front pocket, "you're my best friend, you can trust me."

"Olly would kill you for that statement alone," I force a laugh. "And I'm fine, honestly. I'm over Lucas."

Am I?

As if reading my mind, he asks, "are you?"

We stare at each other for what feels like forever until I decide to break it, swallowing hard and getting myself busy with dresses again.

"What do people wear to homecoming anyway? Do you go for hot and classy or elegant and classy?" I hold out two dresses, in the hope of changing the subject.

Thankfully, Caleb catches on, "you're overthinking this, all you have to do is get dressed and... do your hair. You'll look beautiful still."

A warm smile spreads across my face. "You are so sweet but the worst person for this, let me call Olly."

"Ah... geez you're welcome. I know my fashion sense is impeccable but you could always ask the sales lady over there to help."

I eye the lady narrowly. "I know exactly what she's going to say."

"Which is..." he folds his arms, as if daring me.

"That I look good in everything just so we buy something."
