The Opening Act (A Splatoon Script)

Part 1 - The Beginning

Marie: Unfortunately, we don't. Literally, all we know about them is that they're also of the Octarian species. (They talk)

Echo: Is there anything I- we can do to help? Unless Juliuz doesn't want to help.

Callie: Of course!

Marie: Aaaand... here we go. (They talk.)

Callie: We could use the extra backup! If you're willing, we would love your help! (She smiles.)

Echo: Yeah! I'll do anything to protect the city and- (Echo is energetic.)

Echo: ...and... (Echo glances at Juliuz.)

Echo: [Thought] Wait, what am I doing? I don't know these people, and I was already involved in the war once! I could get caught, then I'd be back in the life I was trying to get away from. Besides, I need to take care of Rosie! And I'm an octoling. How can I do this? Maybe I shouldn't. (Echo looks down.)

Echo: [Thought] But... these people could use some help. (Echo glances up at Callie and Marie.)

Echo: [Thought] And if I don't help, who knows what'll happen to Inkopolis? It could get overrun with Octarians, and Rosie and I could get stuck in the same situation we escaped before! Then again... (Echo thinks.)

Juliuz: As long as I get to put octolings in their rightful place, I'm down for this. (Echo is startled out of her thoughts.)

Callie: You know that not ALL octolings are bad, right? Most of them are actually nice. They're just-

Juliuz: Yeah, whatever. Then I'll put all the BAD ones in their rightful place, how about that?

Callie: Um, okay. (They talk.)

Echo: And I'll help, too! As much as I can! (Echo assuredly looks up.)

Callie: Great! Then I guess you're now agents-in-training of the New Squidbeak Splatoon!

(Callie gives a hug to the two. Echo smiles and Juliuz is annoyed.)

Marie: So, what're your names?

Echo: I'm Echo, and this is JZ.------------

Juliuz: Actually, my real name is Juliuz. My friends call me JZ.

Echo: So... does that mean we get to call you "JZ?" I thought I-

Juliuz: No. What gave you that idea? (They talk.)

(Callie and Marie give him a glare.)

Juliuz: I mean, we literally just met tonight! Sorry, but I'm not calling any of you guys "friends" yet. Uh, what are... your names? (Juliuz awkwardly defends himself.)

Marie: I'm Agent 2, and this is Agent 1. Our real names, however, are classified. (Marie crosses her arms and looks tough. Callie nods energetically.)

Pearl: YO CALLIE! MARIE! WE MADE IT!!! (Callie and Marie are startled.)

Marie: So much for secret identities.

Pearl: Sorry we're late, but you should've seen the crowds out there! It took FOREVER to get through!

Marina: Everyone is freaking out!

Pearl: Oh, and there's other people here... who I just revealed your identities to. Oops. Sorry! (The remaining members of the Splatoon arrive.)

Juliuz: Waitwaitwaitwait... your real names are Callie and Marie?

Echo: As in... THE-

Marie: Yes, as in the Squid Sisters. But that was SUPPOSED to be a secret.

Pearl: Sorry!

Echo: Ooo! I can't believe this! (Juliuz and Echo are starstruck.)

Echo: You guys- er, girls- are INKREDIBLE! I've been listening to your music ever since I came to the city. You have no idea how much your music means to me! It's been my DREAM to just see you perform! But now, you're here and talking to me! And I'M talking to you! Oh carp this is a huge honor! My favorite song of yours has to be Maritime Memory. No, Ink Me Up! Nonono... The Calamari Inkantation! That one is totally the best and...

Callie: Haha! It's not THAT big of a deal, but it's always cool to meet a fan! (Echo is geeking-out like a fangirl and keeps talking.)

Marina: Oh! Who are these?

Callie: A couple of new recruits. Since Agents 3, 4, and 8 are gone, we need a bit more help. These two just helped us with an octoling situation, and they want to help, so they're joining us! Meet Echo and Juliuz!

Echo: H-hi! (They talk)

Marina: Well, isn't this one ADORABLE! She'll fit right in here!

Echo: Hrp... thanks!

Marina: I will take care of this cutie! (Marina gives Echo a big squeezy hug.)

Captain: I'm glad to see that we have a couple more brave souls, but now we must discuss the situation at hand. How do we plan to stop the Octarian menace? (He steps in.)

Callie: Well, it shouldn't be TOO difficult to find whoever stole the Great Zapfish. (She talks.)

Marina: I can try to find sources of energy around Octo Canyon and Octo Valley. If there's a surge of power in a specific spot, that should be where our new enemy is.

Echo: Will that be hard to do?

Marina: Not for Inkopolis's most skilled computer whiz! I can find it within seconds. But, this will probably be the easiest part of the mission. Saving it and the other agents will be the tougher part. (Marina pulls out her computer.)

Marina: I found it! It's on the move, though. It looks like it's heading towards Octo Valley. Toldya this part would be easy!

Marie: But it looks like there are a lot of Octo Kettles to clear before we get there.

Juliuz: Octo what? (Marina shows a map on her computer screen with the location of the Great Zapfish pinpointed.)

Marie: Octo Kettles. Each of them leads to an area where we'll have to face Octarians, and to proceed, we'll have to clear them. (She talks.)

Echo: But we'll still be able to make it, right? There aren't too many?

Marina: Yeah! We can still make it! But first, we should probably head over to where the Octarians just attacked. I need to see if there's any tech we need to study. (They talk)

Pearl: Well, then it looks like we've got a Zapfish to rescue and a city to save! Let's move out! (Pearl energetically runs off.)

Echo: Does she ever calm down?

Callie, Marie, Marina, and Captain: Nope.

Pearl: C'mon people! We're losing nightlight! Pick up the pace!

Juliuz: Okay, okay! You can shut up now! (The group heads out.)

(Echo hesitates for a moment.)

Captain: Are you okay, kiddo?

Echo: Yes sir. Just nervous. I was a part of all this fighting stuff before, just... on the other side. (They talk)

Captain: I understand. But don't worry. You'll be fine. We've all got each other's backs here. (They talk)

Echo: Thanks. You're the captain of the splatoon, right?

Captain: Right. I'm Captain Cuttlefish, but most people just call me "Gramps." I'm Callie and Marie's grandfather, so that's what they call me, and the name stuck with the other agents.

Echo: Heh. I like that. (They talk)

Echo: Now, I guess... let's go save the world or something! (She sets off.)
