The Opening Act (A Splatoon Script)

Part 1 - The Beginning

Juliuz: Okay, fine. I'm not passing up a chance to chase some octolings away. But if I get killed, it's all your fault! And for the record, I hate you!

Echo: Yeah, I know, I know. (Juliuz comes down to join Echo.)

Echo: Hey! You! (Echo calls to the elite octoling holding up Marie. They both turn towards Echo.)

Echo: Uh, yeah, you! Uhhh... attacking inklings is a bad idea! Yeah! You've heard how predatory they are, right? Mess with them, and- um- you'll be the one messed with! So... put her down! (Echo awkwardly tries to stand up to the octoling from a distance.)

Marie: Kid, get outta here. We've got this all under control! (Marie shakes her head. She looks like she's still got the situation under control.)

Juliuz: Yeah, we can easily see that! Is that why you're up against the wall? Literally? By the way, Echo, if that's your "trash talk," you're really going to have to work on it. You sound like a wuss. (Juliuz catches up with Echo.)

(The elite soldier motions the others to attack.)

Juliuz: Aw, shrimp. See, Echo, this is why you don't do trashy trash talk.

Echo: Sorry! I have no experience! (Juliuz speaks to Echo.)

Juliuz: You know what? Why am I even talking to you? You're just another octoling. You can't fight with me since you're like them. (Juliuz fights a couple of the octolings. Echo spots Callie's roller, lying nearby. She picks it up.)

Echo: NGGAAAA! (Echo jumps forward and swings the roller at two octolings to Juliuz's surprise.)

Echo: [Thought] Would "just another octoling" do this? I don't think so. (Echo continues to fight.)

Juliuz: Hey, save some kills for me, Octarian!

Echo: What? Kills? No! I'm not- (Juliuz runs ahead of Echo with a rod.)

Juliuz: Bring it on, Octoling! (Juliuz jumps at the elite octoling.)

(Juliuz tries to deal a couple blows to the elite octoling, but she blocks every one of his attacks.)

(The elite octoling aims her gun at Juliuz and shoots.)

Juliuz: AAGGH! (He's hit twice and gets stuck in ink.)

(Echo jumps over Juliuz)

(Echo swings ink at the elite octoling.)

(The elite octoling stumbles back, covered in ink.)

Echo: Call off your squad. Leave this place and don't come back. (Echo looks down at the elite octoling.)

(The elite octoling motions the octolings to retreat.)

(The octolings let everyone go.)

(Echo watches the octolings retreat into the canyon.)

Juliuz: Rrrgh... stupid Octarian ink... (Echo turns around. Juliuz is struggling to get unstuck.)

Juliuz: Hey! You mind helping me out? I'm a bit stuck. (Echo walks by Juliuz as he's stuck in the ground.)

(Echo approaches Callie.)

Echo: Are you okay?

Callie: Yeah. Thanks for the help! (Echo helps Callie out of the ink.)

Marie: I thought I told you that we had things under control. (Echo and Callie turn.)

Echo: But... but you needed help!

Marie: Look, we appreciate what you did, really, we do. But you could've gotten yourselves killed. Or worse, caught. And I figure that you at least know what happens to those that the Octarians catch. (Marie brushes some ink off her shoulder as she gets up.)
