A Case of Sleepwalking

Start from the beginning

“Ah!”

Leon went to hold Lynelle the second he saw her knees getting weak, a sign she was about to fall down.

“A-Are you okay?” Leon held Lynelle firmly and helped her breathe normally and calm her down. “I’m… I’m fine… But… how did we end up near your doorway.”

Leon just looked at her in a mix of both shock and confusion.

“…Do you sleepwalk?”

“Huh? No I don’t.”

“Well… You just did.”

“What…?”

Lynelle looked at him in disbelief. She didn’t believe it one bit that she was sleepwalking, and in a friend’s house. She’s sure enough to know what her own sleeping habits are…

… that is, if she didn't had any nightmares before.

“Wha… What happened exactly?” Lynelle looked down, avoiding his worried gaze. Her face was full of fear and confusion, she didn’t dare to let Leon see it.

But even if she was hiding her face, Leon knew that his ravenette friend was scared. The grip she had on his shirt was a sure enough message that she was terrified of whatever she dreamt.

It hurt him to see her all vulnerable.

Leon lets her stand straight, and he gave her some reassuraing pats on her back. “I was in the kitchen, drinking some water, when I saw you walking towards the door. I had to stop you from going out in the middle of the night. But the second I did, I saw that your eyes were glowing.”

“What? They… they were…?”

Lynelle looked at Leon, shock and fear present on her face. She rubbed her hands subconsciously, something she does whenever she feels anxious.

“Yeah. Your right eye was glowing in magenta while your left was glowing in Cyan. Something like this has never happened to you before, has it?”

“No… never…”

Lynelle looked down to the cold floor below her, her head full of an overwhelming amount questions. She hugged herself, to soothe and distract her from remembering her nightmare.

But she couldn’t. The voices were like an amalgamation of emotions, emotions that she has felt before.

Anger, sadness, disgust.

The feelings of grief, agony, disappointment

… Lingering regrets…

… It all felt too real…

… Like she was there…

“…Here, Lyn’. Drink some water.” Lynelle snapped out of her blank daze and looked up to see Leon holding her a glass of water. The ravenette hesitantly accepts the glass of water and took tiny sips.

“… Thank you.” She thanks him and placed the glass onto their sink.

Even drinking water didn’t calm her down.

“… Have you been getting nightmares recently?” Leon asks as he leans on the counter. As he asked, Lynelle averted her gaze from him.

“No, not really…”

Leon sighed heavily, knowing full well that she was lying. “Lyn’…You’re not really good at hiding it.”

Lynelle flinched, proving Leon right.

“… Do you mind telling me?”

“… I’m okay, it’s nothing to worry about.”

“Lyn…”

“I don’t want you to deal with my problem… You’re already busy enough as it is.”

“I’m always willing to help a friend.”

Lynelle went silent, and looked at him in disbelief. She already saw how many duties a Champion completes in a day, given that she’s close friends of two.

She already knows how busy the man in front of her was. She didn’t want to add any of her problems and make them be a burden to him, even if he was willing to help.

She already has Sonia to ask for help, someone she can trust enough to help her with her nightmares. She cannot – and will not ask Leon for his help.

“Leon….maybe I will tomorrow. For now, let’s get some sleep tonight.”

Leon faced her with a unsure look. He stayed silent for a while. He wanted to help her with whatever problem she was currently having. It did took him aback when his help was rejected, but he knew why she did.

He wanted to tell her that he’d help her even if he was busy. What he does daily as Champion will not affect him when he helps a friend. But seeing that the ravenette was dead set on not letting him help, he decided to let it slide for now.

“Alright… Sleep well.”

“You too…”

As Leon walked ahead to his room, Lynelle couldn’t help but stare at him until he was out of sight. She could tell that Leon would try to help a friend in need, but it still surprised her to know how far he would actually go.

She felt a little guilty for refusing his help… but…

She may need his help in the future.

“Thank you…”
