12. The Seccond Task

Christmas is over and the Tri Wizard Tournament continues with the second task. This time we are at the Black Lake where Dumbledore announces the second task
"Welcome to the second task. Last night, something was stolen from each of our champions. A treasure of sorts. These four treasures, one for each champion, now lie on the bottom of the Black Lake. In order to win each champion need only find their treasure and return to the surface. Simple enough, except for this. They will have but one hour to do so, and one hour only. After that, they'll be on their own. No magic will save them. You may begin at the sound of the cannon" the cannon then blows, the champion all jump in. Harry then jumps out of the water like a dolphin making many people cheer. For a while it's quite no one appears, that is until Fleur comes up "the Beauxbatons champion, Miss Delacour, has unfortunately been forced to retire, so she will take no further part in this task"
"What does this mean? that whatever is down there is lost forever?" I ask Draco who shrugs. Again it's quiet until Cedric comes to the surface with Cho then Krum comes up with Hermione, but Harry is still down there. Next to come to the surface is  Ron and a young girl who happens to be Fleurs younger sister, but no Harry. The clock chimes signalling the 1 hour is up. Suddenly Harry is almost throw out of the water
"Well he's not dead" Crabbe comments earning an eye roll from me
"Attention!" Dumbledore shouts using his wand to project his voice "ladies and gentlemen, we have reached or decision. Although Miss Delacour failed to retrieve her hostage we award her 25 points for demonstrating excellent Bubble-Head Charm. Mr Krum used an incomplete form of the Transfiguration spell, we award him with 40 points. Mr. Diggory who showed innate command of the Bubble-Head Charm. He returned his hostage one minute out side of the time limit, 47 points. Mr Diggory is the winner. However, seeing as Mr. Potter would have finished first had it not been for his determination to rescue not only Mr. Weasley, but the others as well, we've agreed to award him second place"
"Yes!" Crabbe shouts causing Draco to hit him over the head with a scowl go
"At least Cedric is still in the lead" Astoria shrugs.

Back in the common room I notice a little package, I know what it is. I open it up reluctantly and see the little box, I open it up and see a little note neatly folded up
Our Dearest YN,
As discussed at Christmas, this is your engagement ring to Draco. We would like to see you wearing this now as your both going to be turning 16 soon. We havec all dx that you may wait a few years until you marry, once the Lord permits that it is ok. He will be back very soon, sooner than you may think and he will be delighted that you will be the first pure bloods to secure the line under his rule. We love you so much YN. Burn this letter once it has been read.

I sigh placing the letter down and lifting the ring out of its box, I have to admit, it is a beautiful ring. 1 large diamond with 2 emeralds on either side, with loads of little diamond around the band
"Hey YN what you got there?" Draco asks waking into the common room
"My engagement ring" I show him with a straight face
"What's that?" he nods towards the note as he sits down next to me
"Just a note saying that the.." the common room door opens and quickly I hide the note and ring in my robe pocket
"Whatcha got there?" Pansy asks skipping over to us
"Oh nothing" I close the lid to the box also putting it in my robes pocket "just a pare of earrings my parents bought me
"Ooo let's see"
"No" I say way to quickly which makes Pansy look at me strangely "sorry. No errm I don't like them so I'm sending them back to mum and dad"
"Why are you acting so weird?"
"I'm not, we're not are we Draco?"
"No erm not at all"
"Ohhh I get it. You were having a moment. Ignore me, I'm just going to the dorm room" Pansy smirks then runs off up the stairs to our dorm
"So what was the note?" Draco asks me
"Read it, to many ears about" I dig into my pocket and give him the note to read. Then when he's done he throws it into the fire, we both watch as it burns to make sure it's definitely gone. We agree that I won't start wearing the ring until after this year at Hogwarts. At least then we won't have to explain why we're engaged only a month after our first kiss together.
