"Why would you get a howler?" Jae asked finally controlling his snickers,

"What did you do?" Hayley asked,

"Why do you think it was I who did something wrong?" Xan asked as he hurriedly took the howler and walked outside the hall,

"Well because you are you," Hayley said as she and Jae ran behind him,

"Well... alright it maybe because I haven't responded to a single letter since I've returned to the castle," Xan sheepishly admitted,

"XAN!"

"SAYRE!"

Hayley and Jae yelled simultaneously,

"I don't see what the problem is, sending a howler is just a bit much," Xan said aggravatedly,

"Mate, I get where you're coming from, but at times like these, our parents need some reassurance, alright? So whatever problem you have, keep it aside and write to them for the sake of Merlin's beard!" Jae said looking between Xan and the howler,

Just then Xan dropped the howler as it got hotter by the second tot ouch. Hayley crouched and picked it up even though heat scorched her fingers, she looked at Xan who simply nodded, signaling he was fine with opening it.

She didn't need further instructions as she slit open the Howler rapidly afraid it might blow up in her face if she didn't.

"XANTHUS LUCAS SAYRE!!!  WHAT MADE YOU THINK IT WOULD BE ALRIGHT TO NOT REPLY TO A SINGLE LETTER SENT BY ANY OF US FOR MONTHS!

BEFORE YOU GO ABOUT THE USUAL NONSENSE OF BEING BUSY WITH YOUR HOMEWORK, LET ME REMIND YOU THAT I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM COMING IN PERSON AND TEACHING YOU A LESSON OR TWO!"

The sheer volume from the little piece of paper made them back several feet away from it. Hayley could imagine a woman resembling Xan's features screaming, her face red with anger.

"WITH EVERYTHING GOING ON ONE MIGHT THINK YOU WOULD BE MORE RESPONSIBLE BUT-

ALL WE WANTED WAS TO KNOW WHETHER YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS ARE SAFE!

WE UNDERSTAND THAT THIS YEAR'S HOLIDAYS WASN'T THE BEST BUT IGNORING MY, YOUR FATHER'S, BROTHER'S AND UNCLE'S LETTERS IS UNACCEPTABLE!

I EXPECT A REPLY THE EARLIEST  POSSIBLE, IF I DON'T RECEIVE ONE BY TONIGHT, I'M COMING TO THE SCHOOL TOMORROW!"

The shouting which seemed as though it shook the very ground they were standing on stooped, the letter immediately caught up in flames, which then turned into a small pile of ash.

"Blimey Sayre, you could've written back to at least one of them," Jae spoke in a small voice, as though he was the one who had received the Howler,

"Yeah why didn't you?" Hayley asked, concerned,

"It was stupid... I-I, you know what, I'm going to the owlery to write back," Xan said swiftly turning,

"OI!" Jae called out,

"What? " Xan asked turning around,

"How do you plan on writing exactly?" Jae asked, throwing his ink pot, quill and some parchment at Xan, who caught it and waved a thanks.

"Remember this the next time you try make fun of my extendable pockets!" Jae yelled behind him.

The week went past a blur and it was already the last class of the week, Lockhart was the only teacher who was aloof about security,

"The culprit has been caught, carrying all these protocols is useless, I'll make sure to tell it to Minerva, It's silly really, I'm a busy man and I certainly do not have time to be escorting you around the class," He rambled,
