" My thoughts are crawling, you're all I see."
Telephones; Vacations

---

Ever since Davina was a child, she's been a straight A student.

She's never gotten anything below a B and her GPA was a 4.0. All her life, her parents have always talked about greatness and how she needed to work for her future, that nothing will be handed to her.

All of the pressure has always pressed onto her, leaving a heavy weight on her shoulders. The more she grew up she always thought why did she have so much responsibility at the age of 9? Why was she taking care of her 5 year old siblings when her parents would suddenly leave the house?

She never understood why she had to go through such a struggle just to try and be an artist. According to her parents;

' you don't achieve anything by getting it easy, the hard way is the best way.'

Why, though? Why go the hard route when the easy route is right in front of her?

" You have a C?! When did you start getting C's Davina!?" Her mother yelled, " I didn't turn in something for math, it'll change tomorrow." Davina replied, she ate some cereal as her mom checked her grades on her phone.

" Then what have you been doing this whole time!? Sitting on your ass?! Davina, this isn't acceptable if you want to get by in life." Davina huffed, " why are you yelling?" " Because I have a no good daughter who doesn't seem to care about her future." That's what made Davina snap.

" It was one assignment! It'll be tomorrow, what is your issue!?" " You haven't been paying attention! What have you been doing that makes you miss an assignment, Davina! Don't tell me you've been with that Mallory boy or I swear to god-"

" Why would I be around him mom?! I have no reason to! Why is that your first assumption!? Have you ever thought that I'm tired!? Exhausted!? Or have you never heard if those words?" Her mother sighs and throws her phone frustratedly on the counter.

" Go to your room." Davina scoffed, " gladly."

Now here she was, sitting in a smokey bathroom with a murderer.

" You've been in here the whole time?" She asked, wiping her face of her tears and any toothpaste that lingered around her mouth she didn't get.

Cain nodded and she groaned and buried her face into the palms of her hand. " I'm sorry you had to see that." She mumbled embarrassed.

Cain noticed the subtle bracelet on her right wrist, it had pearls on it but they were separated by a small length of gold chain. He thought it suited her, it was nice, classy but not garish.

" You might start working soon, good thing you're gonna be a janitor, a few of us are still sitting on the fact that the manager decided to hire you." Davina looked down at the floor with a blank stare as she spoke. It was like her eyes were stuck on something and she couldn't move anywhere else.

Cain watched her carefully, he made mental notes of everything about her and what she did as she zoned out.

She messed with her bracelet, her fingernail nipping at the clasp. He could see the side of her jaw slightly clench every few times. There was something about Davina that he couldn't place, he had no idea why he had this fascination with her.

Snapping him out of his daydream, Davina begins to get up. He watched as she stretched, her tank top riding up just a bit so he could see her belly button, it was decorated with a piercing, the stud of it sitting right above it and it had a small chain that dangled down with a crescent moon detailed with faux diamonds.

" I should go, sorry again." As she opens the door, the music gets in making Cain wince a bit at how loud it was, she closed the door and Cain was left alone. He was about to go back to smoking until he saw it.

Her bracelet.

Cain got out of the tub and grabbed it, he stood up and saw that the latch broke, it did look a bit older as well so her messing with it probably made it snap.

Cain pocketed the bracelet and made his way out of the bathroom. He pushed through the people who were making out and dry humping against walls.

He got to the front door and saw Davina walking down the sidewalk. He remembered seeing her walk inside with a friend, where is that friend now?

Cain grabbed his skateboard from the bush he hid it in and walked down the sidewalk behind Davina.

Hearing his footsteps, Davina looked back and saw him walking toward her.

" You aren't planning to kill me are you?" She asked, she probably shouldn't have said anything but she wasn't in control of her mouth.

Cain didn't say anything and continued to walk behind her. Davina sighed and decided that if he did kill her, at least the last face she'd see would be an attractive one.

A little while later, Davina walked up to a gas station, Cain still behind her. He followed her like a duckling who thought she was his mother, I mean she'd hoped not, seeing what he did to his last mother...

Davina walked into the corner store and immediately went to the chips. She picked up a bag of her favorites and then got her a soda and something sweet as well. She went to the counter and began to pay.

Cain walked around the store looking for something to appease his appetite, he didn't see anything until he saw the sweets in Davina's hand.

Little Debbie Zebra Cakes

It was a pack of two and the moment she paid, she opened one and ate one. She began to walk away until she saw Cain just standing there watching her.

" You comin' or what?" She asked. Cain grabbed his own pack of zebra cakes and walked up to the counter. " Mallory, good to see you, Marlboro's?" The owner asked, he must come here regularly. Cain nodded and pulled out some loose money from his pocket.

He paid for his stuff and when he walked out he saw Davina sitting on the curb eating her chips. He got next to her and sat down.

" You're like a scary dog...I have scary dog privileges now if you're gonna follow me everywhere."

A scary dog...

Better than a creep.
