Lincoln's POV

"Lincoln, come on." Alex called. "You don't want to be late."

I buried my head under the covers. I didn't want to do this anymore.

"Get up." He yelled.

The door opened.

"Lincoln, come on." He said, again. "I'm not letting you mess this up again."

"I'm not going." I mumbled.

"Yes you are." He said, bluntly. "You're not going to disappoint yourself and your sisters by failing to turn up today. Get up."

"I'm going to mess up anyway. I always do."

"Rubbish." He dismissed. "Go and have a shower and get rid of those thoughts. Now."

"Piss off." I mumbled.

"Fine." Alex said and I thought he was going to leave.

"PUT ME DOWN." I yelled as he carried me to the bathroom.

"You need to get ready. Now I can either give you a wash or you can do it yourself." He said. "It's your choice."

"Fine." I yelled, slamming the door shut.

Ten minutes later, I walked down the stairs with a scowl.

"Get in the car. Let's go." He said.

"I can't."

"You can. I'll be with you. It's going to be ok."

"He hates me."

"Louis doesn't hate you."

"Then why did he never let me see my girls?"

"The Home didn't let you see them. He wanted you to see them more often."

"How do you know?"

"I spoke to him on the phone."

"When?" I asked, feeling betrayed.

"A few weeks ago when he called to organise a visit."

"What if they hate me?"

"Why would they?"

"Because of the number of promises I didn't keep. Because I've let them down time after time. What if they don't trust me?"

"Then you regain that trust. Piece by piece." He said. "I've got you now. You're going to be just fine."

Slowly, I climbed into the car.

"What about Rosie and the other animals?" I asked.

"Rosie's spending the day with Adam and all the animals have got feed and water to last them the rest of the day." He replied.

"It will take us ages to get there." I argued.

"That's why we left at six."

"It's six o'clock?"

"I lied about being late." He replied smoothly.

"So why did you carry me to the bathroom?"

"To keep you distracted enough to not notice the time."

I swore.

"Enough of that lip. I'm sure Louis doesn't want his girls mouthing off." He said. "Calm down, son. I've got you."

He rested a hand on my neck and squeezed gently as he continued to drive.

"I've got you." He said again.
