Chapter 18: The Last Drop

While Nessa was heading up to the bar some enforcers passed right next to her but ignored her. She looked around the market area and noticed many stores were empty and left unattended. Some stuff was broken on the floor, and even some stores seemed to be scavenged.

"Things are getting worse each day... I better hurry up or I will miss it" Nessa whispered so the enforcers wouldn't try to question her or attempt looking over her stuff

As soon as she entered the place, she saw a big crowd of people and pushed her way through until she found Vi and company. Once Vi saw her she went up to her to hug her.

"Are you guys all right?" Nessa asked while hugging her back

"We are fine, thanks for coming" Vi replied while breaking the hug so they could walk towards the others

Nessa waved to the others and they waved back. She stood leaning towards the wall next to Ekko and looked at everybody.

"So, I think you all are aware of what is happening. Enforcers keep barging into our city and if we don't do something... Well it may lead towards a war" Vander stated

"We should hit them back. We got the numbers to beat them!" Sevika said while punching the table

"Yeah. Let's teach them what it means to mess with us!" added another man in the room

"Yeah!" the rest on the room replied

Many started to shout in agreement while looking at each other. Nessa lowered her head for a moment in guilt but remained calm.

"You sure that's what you want?" Vander asked

"Let's do it!" screamed a stall holder

"We crossed that bridge once before, and we all know how that ended" Vander replied

As soon as he said those words, Nessa placed a hand on Vi's shoulder to comfort her and she smiled at her.

"You're just protecting your kids" said another man with an annoyed look

"I'm protecting our people. I'd do the same for any of you" Vander replied "We look out for each other. It's the way it's always been"

"(Doubt he will think the same after the upcoming event...)" Nessa thought while feeling her emotions be accumulated inside of her

"This will blow over. We just need to stan together" Vander continued

"The Vander I knew, the one who built the underground, wouldn't be afraid to fight" Sevika commented while looking at the crows and then at Vander

Vander got close to her "Do I look afraid?" he asked

"No, you look weak" Sevika replied before leaving the place along with a group of people

"Why isn't he doing anything?" Claggor asked

"We kicked the enforcers' butts with just the four of us" Powder added "Imagine what the whole of the Lanes would so"

"It is not that simple..." Nessa replied while leaning on the wall

"Geez even Powder wants to fight" Mylo commented

"So why aren't we?" Vi stated while she was about to head downstairs but Ekko remained there without moving trying to hide something

"Spill it Ekko" Vi said noticing his behaviors

Nessa remembered what he told her and placed her hand on his shoulder "There is another reason why we aren't going to fight..." Nessa replied

"What is it?" Vi asked

"Oh, okay. Well, um, Vander's got a deal with the Enforcers" Ekko said to them

"What deal?" Vi asked in surprise

"The enforcer asked for a name, just one name of the people who caused it and it will all be over" Ekko replied

Vi looked at him shocked, "Why didn't you say anything?" Vi asked Nessa

"Cause I've known you for like 10 years, I know how you tend to react" Nessa replied while she walked towards their room

Vi, Powder and Ekko followed and when they arrived to the room Nessa sat on an available space while Vi started to walk in circles in front of her

"What are you planning to do?" Nessa asked her "better yet, are you planning on doing something at all?"

"I don't know..." Vi replied

"You know you don't have to put so much pressure on yourself. You have people around to help you" Nessa said while looking at her

"It's not that, it is more of a 'I believe I am responsible of all this' type of thing" Vi said while giving a short sigh

"You are not planning on turning yourself in... are you?" Nessa asked

"It may just solve everything, and I am not just thinking about what is right, I am thinking of the best answer to make sure Powder is ok..."

"You think abandoning her is the best solution?" She asked

Vi remained silent "I would do anything for her, even if it hurts her"

Nessa smiled "Well I wish I could understand but I have no brothers or sisters"

"Have you ever had someone you cared for so much that you would be willing to do everything for?" Vi asked her while walking in circles again

"Yeah... but I still can't compare a sister's love to the type of love I felt. Sisters' love is way deeper and you know it since you both grew up together. That is why I know it is hard for you to think clearly and you should rest"

"What would you do if you were in my position?" Vi asked her

"You want the simple or the hard solution?" Nessa asked while glancing over at the other people who were talking about going to war

"Both" VI replied

"The simple solution: I would turn myself in. That would mean saving those who I care of but probably not seeing them ever again. The hard solution: Leaving Piltover... leave the undercity. Leave everything behind and start a new life somewhere else" Nessa said while picturing a new life on her head

"As if we could do that" Vi commented while sitting besides her covering her face with her hands in frustration

"True, that is why I tagged it as the hard solution" She said while placing her hand on her back

"But between us... you should avoid going out for a little longer" Nessa said in a lower tone

"Keep hiding? They will eventually find us"

Nessa felt a knot on her throat while looking at her "Just do so..." she said while she stood up "I have to go now, I have some stuff to do"

"Are you sure you don't want to stay a little longer?" Vi asked

"I can't, I have to leave now" Nessa replied while hugging her "Everything will be fine, just hang on. Promise?"

"I promise" Vi said while hugging her back

"You guys be safe" Nessa said to the rest who just waved goodbye and once she stepped out of the bar, she felt how all of her emotions wanted to burst out "(My father was right... It is only hurting more with every moment I spend with them)"
