signs of a struggle

The snarling dogs had got to it before me

I looked away but the stench was unrelenting

Flies buzzing mad and the heat beating down

Wiped away the sweat from my brow and lowered myself to the ground

The exposed ribcage fiercely protecting a still, cold heart

Dried blood under finger nails, something I won't soon forget

We only seem to see the grief and hunger that death has left

It is a fight for a life, you can learn so much from a carcass
