Laurie still gets to experience that electric feeling, that rush of adrenaline that courses through her veins like live wires when something doesn't go to plan. But it's different, safer. It's without having to deal with the negative repercussions, the high without the low following, just how she likes it.

Sure, Laurie knows the teenage years of your life are supposed to be the perfect time to make stupid decisions and even stupider mistakes, but she's never been one to act on impulse. The unknown is scary, like the forestry that surrounds Hawkins in the dead of night, and Laurie finds comfort in knowing what to expect and when to expect it.

Laurie had expected her summer break to be pretty uneventful like it has been for the past 17 years. But instead of spending it watching cheesy romcoms with her best friend or getting her nose stuck in one of her many romance novels, Laurie finds herself on the hunt for a new job after finding out that her Mom's diner is on the brink of closing because of the newest addition to Hawkins, Starcourt Mall.

Except, Laurie's life shifts on its axis during the early beginnings of July 1985, and changes in a way she could have never imagined.

After a day of unsuccessful job-seeking, Laurie goes to find comfort from Robin in the back room of Scoops Ahoy Ice Cream Parlor. But, instead of meeting with her loudmouth, freckled partner in crime, Laurie stumbles into none other than Steve "The Hair" Harrington; the boy who barely spared her a glance back in high school, the boy who'd captured her heart and held it hostage for years and had no idea he'd even done it.

And, despite her best efforts, Laurie's unrequited feelings for Steve come full flourish just like they had all those years ago after she's pulled into the madness of working side by side with him, Robin, Dustin Henderson, and Erica Sinclair, to translate a secret Russian transmission in hopes to save the country.

It's only then, after finding out that Hawkins, Indiana, is far more sinister than it had ever seemed, that she realises having a life full of unpredictability may be one worth living. Because, for a brief, fleeting moment, Laurie Dante convinces herself that Steve Harrington might actually like her back.
