Secrets are lies in another name.

As is the case, things kept from each other like a skeleton in the closet can cause break-ups. But we also know that it only happens to those who do not instill trust on each other. If you trust the love he gives you, if you trust the plans he tells you, if you trust what he feels and what he seems to believe, and vice versa, nothing else would have the courage to kill your relationship.

"Meet another family member? Akala ko ba iyon na 'yung dinner?" I asked Khael.

Currently, he is busy organizing whatever thingamabob it is that he placed in his trunk. Sumandal akong patagillid sa sasakyan at tumingin sakaniya.

My eyes were able to spot a basket, a tiny table, blanket, guitar, and a few boxes. Maaga niya akong ginising para rito at hanggang ngayon, hindi pa rin niya sinasabi sa akin kung saan kami pupunta.

He closed the trunk and faced me. "There is still someone you haven't met yet." He grinned and left me disoriented.

Unprepared of what he's up to, pumasok na rin ako sa loob ng kotse.

French winter is still buoyant in the atmosphere. It gives you the feeling of not doing anything for an entire week and just enjoy a hot cup of coffee every quarter after 1. I'd even prefer witnessing students walk across the street without experiencing any academic stress, than to visit my locked-up father who doesn't want to see me anyway. I didn't bother to greet him a Happy New Year either.

A series of assumptions occupied my mind for the entire trip. Sinubukan kong hulaan kung sino ang tinutukoy na tao ni Khael. I even had the time to feel conscious of what I'm wearing.

"Mixed din ba siya katulad mo?" Tanong ko.

"Why?" He gave me a quick glance before focusing on the road. "Worried of starting a conversation?"

I scoffed and gestured a thumbs down. "Sino ba 'yon? Baka kasi hindi ko rin siya maintindihan."

Hindi naman na ako nag-aalala kung magugustuhan ba ako ng tao o hindi. Even so, leaving a first impression is still preferable. I hope that a pair of jeans and a thick jacket will do no harm.

"Don't worry. She'll understand you." Aniya habang nagmamaneho.

Tumaas ang kilay ko. So the person we'll be meeting is a 'she'. I guess I'll never know unless I'll see it myself.

It took us one hour before slowing down at an unfamiliar place. Everything outside is still covered with snow. I also can't find a sight of any house around here, only tall white trees and wire fences.

"Abot mo ba 'yung mga bulaklak sa likod?" Khael asked while his eyes searched for the right route.
