Years had gone by and you knew that she had to be dead by now — she was mortal, after all. The gods had finally allowed you to return to the mortal world and you had immediately found yourself near castle Dimitrescu. You pulled a dark crimson rose from the basket of flowers in your hand and trudged up to the castle doors, setting the rose in the pure-white snow before knocking. The knock was pointless and you knew that — she was dead and no one else would know of what the two of you had going on.

You disappeared in a flash of blue light after that, taking a final glance at the castle once you were far enough away. The doors to the castle opened and a woman stepped outside — her height nearly matching that of a god in their true form. She picked up the rose and examined it closely, causing your heart to stop. Her head turned in your direction and for a moment, you could've sworn you had somehow ended up in the underworld. There was no way she could be alive.

"Alci..." The name fell from your lips as a faint whisper that even you could barely hear. 'She's... alive? No — no, no that's not possible. She was mortal... Alci, what happened to you?'

The woman turned and went back into the castle — leaving you with more questions than you had all those years ago. You fought the urge to go after the woman, knowing that if it was just your mind playing tricks on you, you'd never forgive yourself. A strong breeze blew and a black feather landed in front of you, causing you to tense up and draw your blade.

Your gaze narrowed at the priestess to your left — the tip of your blade skillfully placed at her jugular just in case she tried anything. Miranda had been a pain for every god since she received her powers — desperately trying to cling to a life she couldn't return to. You had to admit, she was a very determined individual, but the lack of love towards her "children" made it difficult to like her. A few of the other gods had tried to explain everything, but you just couldn't understand how someone could claim another being as their child and not love them.

"I remember you." Her voice came out calm and collected, leaving you to wonder how often she found herself in this situation. "You're that goddess that would sneak around with Alcina. I never thought I'd see you again."

"The gods recently permitted me to visit the mortal world." You muttered out, never once letting your guard down around the woman. "...What happened to her?"

"You just saw her — she's better than she was before. Stronger, taller, smarter — immortal."

You faltered at her words and that was more than enough for her to be able to leave without getting nicked by your blade. The pounding of your heartbeat deafened you — sending you into a spiral. A bright blue light engulfed you and the comforting hum of your mother began to calm you — even if your mind did stay on Alcina and what she could be now.

Seconds turned into minutes. Minutes into hours. In the blink of an eye, the moon was at its highest and you were sitting on a tree branch, watching the castle you had spent so many days in all those years ago. You didn't miss the three figures that would pass by windows with Alcina — something you'd have to ask her about if you ever spoke to her again. Alcina sat at her vanity and touched up her makeup, ensnaring your heart as she did back then with her beauty and grace.

You watched as she finished touching up her makeup and opened the window, her gaze flitting up towards the moon — or so you assumed. Hope quickly filled your system as you noticed the rose in her hand — the same one you had left at her doorstep. Her lips parted but no sound came out, causing your jaw to clench before an idea popped into your head — one your mother had suggested before she left.

With a deep breath, you steeled your nerves and began to sing — your gaze shifting to the moon. "I know you're somewhere out there — Somewhere far away. I want you back, I want you back. My neighbors think I'm crazy, but they don't understand. You're all I had, you're all I had."

"At night, when the stars light up my room, I sit by myself," A voice joined in, and yours faded away to let it take the lead.

"Talking to the moon — Trying to get to you in hopes you're on the other side talking to me too. Or am I a fool who sits alone talking to the moon?" Alcina's unmistakable voice faded out after that and brought tears to your eyes.

'She's been alive all of this time? Why... why didn't she..?'
